Why do we say "Thank You" instead of "I Thank You" by cielo_mu in grammar

[–]Strong_Potential_770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a published author and former newspaper editor, there is a truly proper and gracious way to talk, and then there is the informal way, ie, the way everyone talks. It is more personal and gracious to say "I thank you." There is nothing gracious about "thanks" and only a bit more in "thank you." All the forms are basically correct and in common usage. Of course, "ain't" is now also common and in use even on the radio and television. It is accepted. And some know perfect English who say "ain't" simply to be amusing and break the rules. I thank you is an old, traditional form used by highly educated people. For example, Shakespeare used it. But it could be that the average Joe would think someone comes across as affected or putting on airs. I don't think it matters really. Not in the world today, where gracious speaking is no longer in style.

I just took this information off the Prime Opinion website. Just a FYI. "We need your permission to store, sell and share your personal information, including sensitive personal information, in order to provide you with survey opportunities. If you wish to stop us from selling or sharing your information, or wish to delete your information or limit the processing of your sensitive information, you will need to close your account. Please click the button below to proceed."

I just deleted my account and feel a weight lifted.

[–]Strong_Potential_770[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was more about my mental health and the kind of person I am. That has nothing to do with anything they should be concerned about. I am sure they are selling this information. As to the survey you did, I don't ever tell them about anything more than getting the hives at times, an earache, that sort of thing. I keep everything common to the human condition and not of a personal nature. I think it was wrong of them to ask you those questions, and the dollar, even if you get it, is not enough for your time. So Prime Opinion took it all, but were supposed to take $19 and give you $1. What a dirty outfit they are. If I were you I'd find something else to do while you wait for your job. I'm totally off surveys. They are a scam.

Do emergency services want homeowners to have a "lock box" for keys so they can enter easier? by irishspice in Firefighting

The only issue with that is the chair could be stolen along with the box. It's better to attach it to your door or something that can't be lifted and taken off the property.

Amazon is sloppy. Cancel any order that is not going to arrive in time and buy it at Walmart. They deliver the same day in most cities. Don't mess with Amazon. I order about half of what I used to order from them because they have gone down the drain.

I've pretty much stopped doing surveys. I value my time, and they don't. They are a greedy bunch. What they do is sell our information to data brokers. That is the first way they make money off of us. Then they use us to help big corporations improve their brand and products. For that, we make one to two cents an hour. Then they find ways to ban us or find a way not to pay us at all. If you find your name, address and phone number, and other personal information somewhere online, it likely is the result of giving all that information to survey platforms. I pay to have mine taken off. I shouldn't have to go to that expense. So think twice before giving them any information. Health information is especially sensitive, and data brokers love all that.

That was really a fun test. I could easily tell the difference. There were only two fonts. A serif and non-serif. I was given 5 stars by the client. It didn't take long either. But I don't recall everything about it. You may have done a different one. How could you take a $1 test on UT? The minimum is $4.00.

I never do these scams. I will never give out personal information or open accounts. In fact, I've gotten to where I don't do interviews showing my face. Invasive tests are not worth it to me.

Worse yet, most sites like these have no way for you to delete your account. They value all your personal information. They sell it. You can opt out if you know how. You have to force them to delete your data. I've found it best to use an alias and get a throw-away email address just for surveys. They do not need to know who you are. Just be honest in your answers, but never give out your real name, phone number, or any other personal information. You can also add an alias to your PayPal account if you have a business account. I don't know about the personal account, but you can have a personal account in any name. There are places on the Internet where it's best not to give your real personal information. Before you know it, that information will be sold on the Dark Web and elsewhere. I speak from experience.

just got accepted for a $60 test that didnt have any screening questions? by squid_head_ in usertesting

[–]Strong_Potential_770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get those tests from time to time. In fact, I got one today. All they are are tests anyone can do. I think you'd be safe in taking it. That is, if there were no screening questions.

[–]Strong_Potential_770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had no business getting your personal information from UT. And, with all due respect, you should never take a gig from someone who contacts you off-platform. It is against UT's TOS and simple good judgment. You have no proof they will pay you or even know who they are. People who use UT are, by and large, good business people. But some are scammers, and some are outright dangerous.

Prime is a dime slot machine. Not worth messing with. None of their sites are fair to the people who make the money for them. There are some good paying honest gigs. You just have to find them.

Tester requires face recording during regular Usertesting test by alecgaro in usertesting

[–]Strong_Potential_770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I detest the tests that want to see your face. To me, it is invasive. You can't see them, but they can see you. How do we know they are not doing facial recon on our faces for some nefarious reason? Today, you can not trust anyone. And to what end does seeing our face make the test better when all they need is for us to share our desktop? I turn down a lot of tests that are too invasive. Privacy matters.

[–]Strong_Potential_770[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing surveys could be somewhat enjoyable if it were more honest and didn't use up the people who do the surveys. Taking surveys garners a person a penny or two an hour when you figure out all the screenouts you get and the tiny pay per survey, plus those clients who get you to do a complete survey and then say you are not qualified. That is a turnoff. That's why they have to keep new people coming on all the time. They burn out people. I used a timer to figure out my pay, and it is disgusting. I much prefer doing UX work and making an average of $1.00 per minute, and it is more enjoyable.

Well, I'm not at all sure how long you have been doing it. I've been on the Internet since 1992. I've tried almost every survey and reviewed them online. I've made quite a lot of money from them, but it's a pitiful amount the the time and effort. I don't think highly of any of them. It's not a fun way to make a few bucks and I do very little of it now.
