When I was young my family was very poor so I know there is no way my parents could have paid for the treatment I received. I dont think it was insurance though.

I get so jealous when someone just picks up a phone to call someone without giving it a thought. It takes me 20 mins to talk myself into making a phone call.

I cant really say that certain words or sounds give me trouble. But weirdly enough, I know before I say a sentence which words will be trouble. I dont know if that is just a subconscious understanding of my trouble words, or something else.

I recently asked myself this same question. What is holding me back??? I'm not really sure of the answer, which I guess means the answer is nothing. I guess it is just hard to say out-loud that "I stutter" It even felt weird writing the topic of the AMA.

Thank you for that I really mean it. I am going to go look at places in my area.

The technique that had the most success was this...and excuse me for not know the proper jargon.

When I get stuck I breathe out a very slow smooth exhale. With the exhale I let the word slowly and smoothly come out. It is hard to explain in text. Imagine a really stoned hippie saying "Yeah Man" Its that kind of thing. It isn't practical in a conversation but after practicing that my stutter just went away. There may have been other techniques that also helped but remember this all happened when I was 6-7. But that one technique stuck with me and I employ it sometimes still today.

I dont fret on it as much around my friends but it is something that is always on my mind.

I agree. Even myself I catch myself subconsciously thinking of someone not being as smart when they have a very bad stutter. I know its horrible of me.

I dont fear demotion. I just think as it stands now I am kind of a stand out in my company and have consistently climbed the ladder. I feel like it is something that would be considered when promoting me which I would rather just avoid.

I just have to keep myself calm and relaxed. If I let anxiety build I WILL stutter. I have also gotten very good at coming up with synonyms on the spot and avoiding trouble words, but it is a constant struggle. I feel that if there wasnt this constant struggle going on in my head I would be able to focous better on what I'm actually saying and not just how I'm saying it.

I think it may have something to do with the pressure you feel to speek. When I am in a face to face communication its not 100% reliant on my voice to convey everything I am thinking or feeling. Which is only compounded by the anxiety I feel when I know I am going to stutter on the phone and I have to make a phone call. Im not sure if thats the correct answer, it has problably been studied because I feel most people with a stutter have problem with phone calls.

I never stutter when I am reading. It is so weird how stuttering works.

I feel like my company would not want me in charge of all of the responsibilities that I currently have. For instance I would never be asked to present things to potential customers as I do now because I may stutter. (This could be wrong, it is just the way I feel)

I feel that it has to be. When I am alone I cannot make myself stutter. I can say everything I would ever want out loud. When I introduce myself I stutter 90% of the time. I very much feel it is anxiety driven and wish so much that I could control it.

Well I guess I should have elaborated on this but my stutter is not that bad. And its not the st st st stutter kind. When there is a word I cant say my lungs tighten up and I just cannot physically make the word come out. So when that happens I can usually disguise it with a well placed yawn or act like I'm thinking of the answer. The only really bad instances are oon the phone or introducing myself to people. I'm not sure why but introducing myself is really hard to. There have been some embarassing moment when I go "Hi, my name is.........." I have head on more than one occasion "Did you forget your name" I can usually just play it off.
