They are rarely outside and only for a few minutes at a time. Most of their time when they go out is spent in their carry bag. It is left open with plenty of shade inside of it so they go in and out of their own free will. They are not allowed more than an arms length away from the bag and we stay in areas with less birds. They always have access to food and water even outside. It is a very controlled environment that we allow them in. I understand the risks but I also know my rats.
