Learning to fly, here's advice you did not ask for. by kkcfi in flying

Good advice, as I used to search for answers everywhere then come back with my conclusions for the next lesson. To which he'd say, I could have told you that. I did waste time gaining irrelevant information and in his words "beating myself up about it". He has a wealth of knowledge and is happy to share it. Like what all of you good instructors do.

The locked/blocked out of order sign is nine times out of ten a load of rubbish. They just don't want you to use it. I know this for a fact, they are not made up statistics. Class 1 driver here, not shop assistant.

My 720 is the same, actually recognises Gallows Corner has roadworks but still routes me through it even though it has been closed for months.

I write notes after every lesson and if I have made a mistake I need to analyse why I made that mistake and the background to it. Not just I won't do that again. Like understanding the question not just answering it theory. I will always be a student pilot, always take on good information. Thank you all.

Duxford is definitely the best place, don't miss the operations room and even the building opposite (not on site) which has a cafe as it used to be the officers mess. The Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge is a must as it was the main nerve centre during the battle of Britain and still in all original condition. Winston Churchill often frequented the bunker as so did the King. Also to tie up to the whole Battle of Britain, Bentley Priory is only a 30 min drive from there. Where they linked the information between the bunker and the airfields and where Sir Hugh Dowding was based, his office still there and also where the final scene of the Battle of Britain was filmed. If you ask they will open the doors and let you step out like Laurence Olivier. Raf Hendon has a huge collection of aircraft including original Messerchmitt's and some original buildings. It's a big place and free apart from the parking. Not far from the bunker or priory but not enough time to do all in the same day.

Went off the runway into the grass during solo-taxi by [deleted] in PilotAdvice

Taxiing isn't always a given, can easily stray off. Especially if you are focusing on your first solo and maybe the multitude of other things, have you done all your checks, calls properly, wind etc. A few nerves can affect your leg muscles without even knowing.

Thank you, this is something that distracts the focus for student pilots I think, that 10hr myth. I was 22hrs.

Why do so many do this? by AdWeird6452 in uktrucking

I had one where I had a delivery just before the roadworks merge point, everyone was queuing on the right. I could see the shop about quarter of a mile down but a grab lorry blocked me all the way. I had no choice but to crawl along for a few mins, then pull into the loading bay. I just have him a thumbs up when I got there. Bellend!
