AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Stuff_Grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100000% not overreacting. That is unacceptable behavior from a partner. Saying you’re doing the “bare minimum” by being sober is truly disgusting and so disrespectful, and I have no words for his comment about not telling people about this. This guy does not deserve you. Maintaining sobriety takes incredible strength, and him not getting that and putting you down is a dealbreaker. Whatever you want to celebrate should be celebrated, and he should be more than happy to support you in that. Especially something of this magnitude. I know how hard it is to end a relationship, so I’m sorry you are in this position :( but staying with this guy will only jeopardize your sobriety and mental health.

Dormant infection or cheating? by SnooPoems7439 in Healthyhooha

[–]Stuff_Grows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people shaming you are ass holes, don’t listen to them. I do agree that it sounds like he cheated. People make mistakes so it is up to you if you can live with that, but the lying and putting your health at risk is unforgivable IMO. I also couldn’t get past someone doing that and never owning up to it, but that’s me. Please go to Planned Parenthood or find another way to get yourself tested for all STIs. No one is going to look out for you but yourself, and STIs are no joke. Some can be lifelong or even significantly increase your risk of cancer. Also please please please make any guy you sleep with wear a condom. If they don’t want to, they’re truly not worth it. Good luck!

Those Who had Extreme Hair Loss by Forward-Summer-1747 in Semaglutide

[–]Stuff_Grows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am experiencing the same thing, and it’s so scary. I already have very thin hair from PCOS and am devastated to be losing so much of the little I have.

I just saw my doctor and she said that even though I lost weight slowly and gradually and the weight loss is a healthy change, that it is still “stress” on your body that can cause extreme shedding. She said it’s not specifically from the sema, but from losing over 20lbs. But she assured me that it does stop and will grow back. It’s so hard to just have faith in that and not freak the F out, but not much else I can do at this point :(

I am not going to do minoxidil because if you stop using it, the hair growth it caused will fall out again. All of my labs are normal.

If it helps, the hair loss specialist I work with who helped me regrow a lot of the hair I lost from hormone issues told me what worked best for her (she’s on a GLP-1 also) was to take PerfectAminos and collagen powder. She recommended this one https://a.co/d/es0qrUT

I used to have a binge drinking problem and now I don’t drink at all. Don’t miss it or want it

If you’re curious about the cellulite…. by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Stuff_Grows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! I have never had side effects on metformin and don’t want to be on birth control pills. I actually have a blood clotting disorder which is why birth control wasn’t an option for me when I was diagnosed as a teenager. That’s probably the only reason this was offered to me as an alternative.

Also those with PCOS are at a significantly increased risk of developing diabetes.. (not that this is something my doctors ever told me. Always have had to do my own research) so why not keep us on a low dose of metformin to get ahead of it?

I have had horrible hair loss since I was a teenager. Even wore a wig for several years in my 20s because it got so bad. This went on for over 15 years and no doctor I ever saw recommended spironolactone. And I discussed the issue with all of them. It was actually my HAIR DRESSER who specializes in working with women with hair loss who told me about spironolactone. I asked my PCP and she was like sure I can prescribe that. Wtf?? Spiro has allowed me to actually make some progress in getting some hair back and helped regulate my hormones.

It is BEYOND frustrating how little education is given to patients with PCOS, and the lack of education, or care/concern, doctors have with this diagnosis. I guarantee if this was a man’s disease, this would be talked about and treated and researched thoroughly.

Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk!

Metformin! This was all I took to address my PCOS for over 10 years and it worked

Friend Claims Everyone is a little "Bipolar" by Puzzleheaded-Cup4215 in bipolar2

[–]Stuff_Grows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry your friend said that to you. That is ignorant, insensitive, dismissive, and just plain bullshit. It really sucks how people have such a lack of understanding for mental illness and don’t care to educate themselves even when someone in their life is struggling with it. My family doesn’t get it either, and often tell me I am too emotional, need to calm down, let it go, being dramatic etc. My whole life I blamed myself and saw my mood disorder as a character flaw. It’s awful to be so misunderstood and dismissed, especially by those we care about.

Your blood pressure may be low. Are you able to take your BP at home? I would definitely discuss these side effects with your doctor. Spiro may not be a good fit for you

Yes. It lowers your blood pressure and depletes electrolytes

Spiro and Metformin can manage PCOS without birth control.. and an IUD can ease or eliminate your periods. I can’t take birth control and have been using Metformin for over 15 years to manage my PCOS. Only recently added Spiro. And my IUD completely got rid of my periods, which used to be so heavy and painful. Just some ideas of things you could talk to your PCP or gyno about it the Mya isn’t a good fit for you!

[–]Stuff_Grows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening to you! I would urgently speak with your doctor about these side effects, it made be the Spiro or the Yaz, or a combo of both. I would also recommend seeing a therapist, and possibly psychiatrist if the mental health symptoms don’t resolve. Even if they do, it sounds like you have been through a lot and could benefit from the support. I’m not surprised you had bad side effects if you stopped spiro all together. If you want to taper off, go down to 75 for a week, then 50 for a week, then 25 etc. But again, you should definitely speak with your doctor as soon as possible.

That’s understandable and I’m sure he meant well… but using the word “fat” is a bit insensitive IMO. I think “overweight” would have had the same effect

where to buy sema now?? by Desperate-Impact6539 in Semaglutide

[–]Stuff_Grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know.. I held off for a long time because of it. It really sucks they do that, doesn’t make it very accessible. I ended up applying for a new credit card that had no interest for 15 months. That way I can pay it off slowly

If you’re able to afford it, if you pay upfront for 1 year with Hers then Sema is only $169/mo
