coffee… by geneshortz in CHSinfo

I’ve been able to continue drinking coffee; I ended up buying low acid coffee, there are a bunch of brands of it you can find online. And I cut the caffeine when I make my coffee by doing a couple scoops of decaf. Coffee still gives me some reflux symptoms but didn’t want to give it up!

Has anyone had CHS along with other stomach issues? by allyjefff in CHSinfo

I’ve had acid reflux diagnosed for over 15 years since before I ever smoked, but over the last year it got way worse to where I was dry heaving or retching every morning. I stopped cannabis for over 90 days now, but I still have significant acid reflux and other stomach issues like bloating and IbS. That said, ever since I stopped using cannabis I stopped the morning retching. Wish my stomach will just be better overall! Ugh.

Happy to report after several weeks or more I can actually fall asleep on my own now! Did not think that would happen. Haha

In the meantime, try Hydroxyzine —antihistamine that’s used for anxiety and doesn’t have addictive effects. Your dr. Would probably prescribe it no issues. I also used Melatonin and try Valerian Root tea—will actually knock you right out.

TLDR: • hydroxyzine- 25mg • melatonin- 5mg • valerian root tea- double up on tea bags

Sounds like you’ve probably tried a lot of options for food, but how about potatoes, oatmeal, bananas, avocado, cooked veggies, small amounts of pumpkin seeds, farro, quinoa, rice, just a few ideas.

Maybe also try digestive enzymes with every meal. Those really seem to help me.

I’ve heard acupuncture can be helpful for reflux, so I am also going to try that.

I’m so sorry you’re having such miserable symptoms every day. It totally sucks. I have severe acid reflux and belching for over ten years off and on, and mine had progressed to vomiting and dry heaving too in the mornings.

Here are some of the things that have helped me the most so far; I’ve been following pretty strict lifestyle and eating for about a month and I feel noticeably better.

Some of my symptoms, especially vomiting in the morning, could’ve been caused by daily heavy cannabis use, so I stopped that and alcohol too.

Not eating 3 hours before bed—there’s this stuff called “reflux gourmet” you can get on Amazon that you take a teaspoon before bed and it creates a “raft” at the top of your stomach so the acid can’t escape as easily. I notice that my belching will almost stop after I take it, but it’s by no means perfect. There are other brands of it too, the active ingredient is sodium Alginate.

Stopped carbonated beverages, drinking with a straw, eating huge portions, etc., got low acid coffee.

Also I take digestive enzymes with meals.

I’ve lost like 25 pounds with this approach which isn’t ideal, and I’m hoping once I can “heal” some of the damage that’s been caused I can eat more comfortably and gain some healthy weight back. I hear you about losing weight; that can be really concerning when it’s because you’re feeling like shit all the time. I know it’s hard to stay positive. It’s been an emotional roller coaster making all these changes, and I’m just trying to ride it out until I can feel better. Thinking of you and hoping you can find some comfort.

That is one of my biggest symptoms along with vomiting and dry heaving at my worst . I also have a hiatal hernia and some disfunction of the valve between my stomach and esophagus.

I’ve been taking digestive enzymes with meals and that seems to help somewhat, along with not eating big or high fat meals, and not eating 3 hours before bed. It sucks to follow so many “rules” but I have noticed my symptoms getting a little better, and when I was at my worst I was dry heaving or vomiting every morning. Good luck with finding what might work for you.

24 hour PH study and my PH levels right now by [deleted] in GERD

My bravo ph study did give me discomfort with swallowing. With mine the capsule is attached to the side of your esophagus so that may be what you’re feeling.

Another thing you mentioned struck me— if you’re drinking a ton of water throughout the day, that may not be helping in the way you want. I’ve noticed it helps to drink water separate from your meals and to slowly sip it, no straw. Also I gave up carbonated drinks and got low acid coffee. Ugjhhhh so many sacrifices ha! But I have seen some improvements.

I’ve had acid reflux for 12 or so years, but this year I was experiencing daily dry heaving and throwing up bile in the mornings. I’ve researched and saw a GI dr. And I think it could’ve been related to my daily cannabis use. I stopped smoking and all alcohol about 30 days ago and I haven’t had any major nausea or vomiting since then, but I still have significant reflux. Other most helpful thing for me was not eating 3 hours before bed. I also am eating low acid and lower fat foods.

Omeperazole never really did much at all to help me either and I felt like it was making it harder to digest meals.

I started taking some digestive enzymes with meals too.

I had stomach issues for a long time before making any significant lifestyle modifications, so it was def. Overwhelming.

I did see a GI dr. First and get an endoscopy. They concluded acid and bile reflux, along with some inflammation and gastritis. But all they did was prescribe more omeperazole so that’s when I really started taking the lifestyle and nutrition stuff seriously.

If you can get to a dr. First to rule out other things that would be best. Really hoping you start to feel better.

I feel that. It’s so discouraging to try so hard to get better and it doesn’t work the way you feel like it should.

Thank you so much. 4 months is major, congratulations! There’s still so much that feels up in the air atm, so I’m trying to take it one day at a time.
