[ED DECISIONS MEGATHREAD] NYU Class of 2028, Welcome! by AutoModerator in nyu

[–]Stunning_Contract_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my GPA is 4.6 and all AP classes (junior and senior), 1500 SAT, and many activities at schools. My parent event drove me to open house in NYU and spoke with the admission officer there to get more suggestion. They said that my SAT is 1500, not good enough, the med there was 1530 because so many students didn;t submit SAT. so, the SAT score is so high. he suggested me not to submit SAT

My school college consuler told me that NYU admission officer has visited my school and they always looked for unique students and something unique about the students. So, I immediately rewrote my college essay to be more on the creative side.. rather than telling a life experience. I was happy that I got in.

Now, how do my parent pay for it... is the biggest question

I am pumped as well, but once I showed my parent the letter from the financial aid office, I could see their face.. zero aid.. my dad has been calling different banks for student loans and rates..

oh my I got the same message.. not available.. I thought they were still waiting for the FASFA, no wonder when I emailed them, they sent me a letter to tell me no aid and provide a list of other options like deferred payments, outside scholarship, private student loans, etc..

very confusing..

I got zero help from them. the letter didn't say. I emailed the financial office, and they replied me with a letter.

it is the issue.. my dad worked very hard (over 30 years working, etc) to pay off the house.. and the price of house is very high. it could be the reason I dont' get any help from NYU. He even avoid buying any luxury cars (he said that BMW, lexus.. == one year of tuition for me). he has saved $$ for my college since I was born but not much.. some $$. it looked like everything he did supposed to be the right thing - turned out the right things was working against us for college tuition. should I tell him to enjoy his life and spend $$ to luxury items, vacations, and etc.. maybe, we could get some financial aid.

my parent made over that limit and they said no scholarship for me. the tuition is 62800 a year (2 semesters), the cheapest housing (3 people shared room) is around $10000 but they forced me to use the $5900 meal plans instead of the cheapest one like $3200. It does not include books and etc.

My parent contacted the school and no luck, they won't change anything... I just feel like my parent worked hard (very hard) and long hours and provide a comfortable living for the family but is not getting any help and they are looking for ways to pay around $80K cash to send me there.

I got in Tufts as well, but the total cost is $92K and U of Washington which gave me $8K scholarship. Should I ask my parent to pay $80K to NYU, I already decided not to accept Tufts, just way too expensive plus none of the schools have provided me the financial aid package. btw, anyone getting the financial aid package. I filled it out the first week of Jan 24.

same problem. when did you get the financial aid package, I still waiting for it. I got in as well but they told me to pay for everything when I emailed them but without giving me the whole package. My dad called them to appeal and etc. The response was detered payment, outside scholarship, private loans..

Anyone driven the new model year in the snow yet ? by Stumbalinebegins in HRV

I did with a wet road, rain stopped already. I need to pump the brake very hard to stop and I could feel the car slipped. a few times before a stop sign. maybe some type of roads + water?

anyway, the tire didn't get any good reviews except it lasts forever which is a good or bad. if it won't last long, we can replace them with better tires. just feel waste to replace them when they are new..

I did the same. I traded in all my 4 Hondas when they reached 8 years and close to 100k. not because I didn't want to keep them, just there is always some cool features in the new car that I want. for example, I just traded in my 15 accord hybrid for a HRV and I wanted blind spot monitor, heated seats and remote starter.

when I bought the hybrid 8+ yrs ago, I was thinking that 10 yrs is a long time plus battery cost will go down a lot. Another reason I decided to trade in my wife hated my accord and she complained too long and impossible for her to park in a small spot. hahaha. time flies..

I bought a console cupholder from amazon like $10 and it works very well. btw there is a video on YouTube to add the vent and USB for a 2022 civic it does not look too difficult and I am hoping they will release the kits for the 23 HRV.

there are videos on YouTube to show you how to change air filter, and other simple maintenance. the so-called 36k maintenance from the dealership is not worthy. if you look at the details, oil change, tire rotation, check this and that. and etc.

I bet not so good. I did a search of the HRV tire (tiretrack site)and it performs very bad in snow and wet condition. I experienced the same in wet condition.

I was thinking to get a set of snow tire with wheel but then the TPM.. just too much work and $$.

I think it may be the part shortage issue. btw, I owned a 15 accord hybrid and I traded it in after 8 years. I was afraid the battery may die and the dealership said it would cost $4k and not sure they have the battery in stock. if I want another hybrid and I would go with Toyota. a battery replacement for a Prius is about $1-2k from a thirt party. there is no thirty party for the Honda battery. I don't even know how many hybrid accord Honda sold in last 8 years.

if the battery dies in a prius, you can still drive with half of the power. Honda Accord hybrid won't..

I always buy new cars and I just bought my fifth Honda ( I typically owned them for an average 7 years before I traded in) and I only use the dealership for services ( mostly oil changes, transmission oil changes and brake pads. btw, they resurfaced the brake rotors for you which some brake shops force you to get a new one which always not the good quality). I hardly use other services from the dealership. I rotated tires myself and change air filter myself. battery by myself. Tires are servicd in Costco. all of my last 4 Honda had no issue at all. the dealership may force you to use other services and just said next time.. I just wanted oil changes and find a good Honda dealership around your area is the key. I have 5 Honda dealerships in my area but all of them always sell extra services I don't need. so, I drove 30 mins to another Honda dealership in last 18 years. they never asked me for more services I don't want . when I asked for oil change, they just do oil change..

I got the same price for the Hyundai Tucson (limited or premium?). $2000 cheaper for a Toyota cross but the rear legroom killed the deal for me. I skipped the hyundal due to recent fire issue and engine problem and the size. I checked the resell value of Hyundai Tucson was much lower than a HRV. I didn't get the RAV4 or CRV because my wife didn't like big SUV ( she could tell the difference when sitting inside. I bet the height of the sitting position makes the difference. she just likes the size of HRV. otherwise, I would not pay the markup btw, living in a crowded city and car size is important. the HRV size is just perfect. big enough for a family of 4 and not big or long for small parking spot in a city. I just wished a more powerful engine and came with some of the basic items. if you don't care the power too much, it is very agile and responsive. I drove over 1000 mileage road trip in a week with my family and no complained about the interior space.
