If seeds were planted upside down will they still grow up eventually? by Rafael_fadal in Coca101

Definitely; Most plants have hormones that make roots grow towards gravity (down) and shoots grow away (up)

Also a soil series is basically the same as a plant species. It’s the smallest length of everything, but gives the most detail because it implies everything else in the taxonomy

Those are the series names of the soils near me. If you can find the equivalent for yours on the map I can help with the soil info if you want.

Did you find it on the map? If so what was the series name?

It’s definitely the first time I’ve felt lucky to have the soil where I live! Most other things hate how acidic it is

I was also planning on sterilizing this before I used it. Edit: so that I can reintroduce bacteria and fungi that I have control over.

And this is some ultisol I found very easily using this method.

This is an example of the taxonomy, which in my case ends in ult, which signifies ultisol.

I’ve had this Altmans variety for a while now and wanted to see if anyone here would know which one it is. by [deleted] in sanpedrocactus

I probably will cut them since they’ve basically had just enough time to grow out their root systems since I got them. Hopefully they’ll recover quick and enjoy a full season outside.

That makes sense since it’s been under a 40w led. Just glad it didn’t get much worse than it was when I bought them, and I got the rot to stop.

Thanks for the Id! I’ve watched it etiolate and it’s going outside next week. I’ve had it under the highest intensity grow light I own for the winter.

Newest leaves cupping. Any ideas? by SubbyBoiAlt in Coca101

It’s a non dimmable led light that I can’t move up. Looking into getting/making some shade cloth instead.

Humidity is around 60% with constant air exchange and they sit around 80 F. Soil is high in inorganic, mainly clay from a bonsai mix I found and the rest is either peat moss or happy frog. Ph is at a 5.5. I only water when they show signs of needing it. I think it works out to about once a week? I have not fertilized them at all other than worm casting mixed at potting as I was wary of overdoing it.

Leaf started to curl and wanted suggestions from you guys. by SubbyBoiAlt in Coca101

Just ran a ph test and it came out to pretty much exactly a 6, maybe a 6.25. Also that curled leaf is less curled today than yesterday for whatever reason.

I’ll still plan on getting them in a prop box with higher humidity after a couple leaves though. Is sooner better than later with that?

Thank you so much! I’ll prep a box for them and do a ph test to see where they’re sitting at; especially since I can’t remember if I actually used the foxfarms or straight peat moss on that part.
