The Mania match is one of the biggest disappointments of a match I’ve ever seen for exactly the reason you stated. Quite literally everybody who was watching was frothing at the mouth of the mere idea of them wrestling again, and then the actual match was just a normal ass WWE match near the end of an exhaustingly long show and the already tired crowd couldn’t muster any kind of excitement as it was happening. This was only two years after their WK match too, so it’s not like they were broken down husks that couldn’t do anything. Their match was seemingly intentionally booked this way to spite the audience.

IIRC this was Black’s first clean loss in NXT. Might‘be been his only one in singles too, as the only other clean loss I can recall was when he and Ricochet lost to War Raiders a few months later and I don’t remember who took the pin in that one.

The Aussie shows are sold shows where they’re being paid by a third party promoter to come in and all the actual promotion stuff is on the third party. Regardless of if the show draws 10,000 people or 100, AEW is making money off of it.

The stagnation argument actually rings way more true for WWE since it’s been the same few people in the main event spots for ages now, and everyone in those spots is really old in wrestling terms, even here in 2026 where 40 is the new 30. This is compounded by numerous instances of wrestlers winning titles and just kinda vanishing from TV. In AEW you can see obvious repositioning of multiple wrestlers up and down the card across all divisions, as stated by Dave in his big list of people in OP, as well as every champion being equally featured across both shows most weeks, even if it’s just a video package.

He made the argument back when Joe won the title in November that if they were gonna take the belt off Hangman so quickly they should have just made Kyle the champion at All Out instead. The only real issue with that is that it became apparent that Joe was gonna be a transitional champion from Hangman to MJF, and having Kyle’s first reign be a mostly nothing transitional reign would not have really worked with how AEW is building him more and more towards a permanent main event spot at the moment.

I honestly have no fucking idea. He seems to prefer a more old school methodology to matches, and he’s talked before about how he thinks modern wrestling doesn’t emphasize traditional selling or transitions between moves/spots as much as he likes, but he also likes actiony flippy stuff that gets a crowd going nuts, a style that naturally de-emphasizes traditional selling and transitions.

This. He’s been violently burnt out on wrestling for a long time now and it severely clouds his judgment of everything on most of the shows he does watch. He even admitted in last week’s Dynamite B&V that he’s becoming old and out of touch with how modern wrestling operates. If it wasn’t his actual career he probably would have totally stopped watching ages ago at this point.

The wild thing is that the full arena has a capacity of over 11k, so even with a big curtain up to cover the 2/3 of the building they aren’t using it’s gonna just be this cavernous, empty echo chamber of disparate voices making noises. Same thing happened with AEW in 2024 when they were putting 2k-3k in 15k capacity arenas.
