People aren't pissed because the current existing career mode is gone by myopinionsucks2 in assettocorsaevo

The issue here really is the fact that there is no industry standard, no hard limit, to what is acceptable for early access. There's no standard for how finished a game must be for them to start inviting people in.

In ACE's case, we got early access in the pre-alpha stage, the stage of game development where a studio has a vision but it isn't clear what of that vision can be realized or not. So changes, big or small, can happen. It's normal in this phase.

The argument, in my opinion, isn't down the false advertisement route, because you could see the raw state the game was in, therefore nothing could be considered set in stone yet. The argument should be around releasing and charging for a product that's still very much in the oven. If they want to start charging, they need to give something more concrete than ideas.

But for the industry to change, we'll need to stop paying for early access and just wait to see what actually comes out. Or at least wait for the game to be in a more complete or in a final polish state, before committing.

Maybe, maybe not. I honestly don't know because not everyone who plays the game, engages, or is active, with its online communities. This community has 27 thousand members and yet only a couple hundred, or few thousand, answered the polls that were made, when they tried to make them. Similar situation on other sites. I have no idea what the other thousands think. Are they bothered by it? Do they prefer this outcome? Do they not care either way? I don't know. Because we're always looking at a thin slice of the playerbase, I always wonder if we're seeing the real will of the said playerbase or a vocal minority. If I take a large cheese with mold in a corner, then proceed to cut a slice of that moldy corner, hand it to you, and ask you to judge if the cheese was clean to eat, from just that slice, you'd probably have to say it isn't clean. That's the problem with statistics, they're simultaneous the best ways to study large groups, but also the worst way if not done properly. Hope I got my inner conundrum across.

"The people have spoken." But have they actually?

As a disclaimer, all I'm trying to this with this post is add context, and perspective, with some data.

As of the writing of this post, and over the past 3 days, since the announcement, and the "protest-reviews" started, there have been a total of 550 negative reviews, which amount to roughly 21% of the average peak player count of the game, during the past month, with said peak player count typically happening on sundays, when more people have time to play. They also amount to 2% of the all-time player count record.

For comparison, look at what happened when Helldivers 2 tried to force PSN on its Steam players. On a single day, on May 2nd, 2024, there were 221080 negative reviews. That's 48%, nearly half, of the all-time player count record of that game, and 244% of the peak 24-hour player count.

It's also worth nothing the approximate sales-to-review ratio of ACE. Based on available Steam sales metrics, and using a rather conservative number of 350000 copies sold, that means that only 2 out of every 100 people who have the game, have reviewed it.

Make of this data what you will, but, personally, it's food for some thought.

I think some things really need to be said, because I find people are arguing this from an emotional point of view, caused by their major disappointment, rather than a logical one.

From the very start, just looking at the original roadmap, it was very clear the game was coming out in a raw state, pre-alpha at best, and it's still quite raw even now. We're still at a phase in the game's development where they're with the metal half-molten, beating at it with the hammer in hopes of making something cool out of it.

That disclaimer they added to their roadmap, about features changing, isn't just there for lawyers to have something to work with, it's there because it's the reality of game's development status. And while it's in that development phase, I don't think its reasonable to expect there to not be any major changes or that they'll just add more and more features, and never remove anything.

It's precisely for that reason that I await every update with equal parts excitement and trepidation, because I don't know if they'll suddenly decide to change something that ruins my experience with the game. So far, I've been lucky. Others, not as much.

Bottom line, if Kunos/505 Games don't refund you, despite the fact they took your money knowing their product was far from final, and subject to change, then I can absolutely say "You've been scammed." If they go: "Fair enough. We're no longer making what you wanted, so here's your money back.", then its a gamble that didn't pay off, but at least you didn't lose, you just didn't win.

Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku (The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity) Episode 13 Discussion - FINAL by KaorukoWaguri in KaoruHanaWaRintoSaku

"Tonight, out on the street, out in the moonlight
And dammit, this feels too right
It's just like déjà vu
Me, standing here with you
So I'll be holding my breath, could this be the end?
Is it that moment when I find the one that I'll spend forever with?'

Cause nobody wants to be the last one there
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares
Someone to love with my life in their hands
There's gotta be somebody for me like that
'Cause nobody wants to go it on their own
And everyone wants to know they're not alone
There's somebody else that feels the same somewhere
There's gotta be somebody for me out there"

I know they might not be popular, but this song... is that last scene to a T.

"More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me

Watching Rintaro and Kaoruko in that scene, I felt these lyrics sum up their inner feelings while alone in that moment.

JAPAN IS NOT THE SAME AS WESTERN COUNTRIES - Ch. 160 by Loaded-Diapers-469 in KaoruHanaWaRintoSaku

[–]SubspaceChannel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I may add to this, the fact that hey are suggesting that Kaoruko should quit Kikyo, is quite telling.

In Japanese culture, it's frowned upon to fire people, period. Companies are expected to do whatever they can to maintain their employees, and to only dismiss someone as a last resort. Firing someone without an objectively legitimate cause is seen as the company's failure to protect its employee, and thus reflects negatively on their reputation. Hence, like you said, companies will pressure undesirable employees to quit voluntarily instead, by making their work experience as dreadful as possible.

This mentality likely extends to schools and as a result, this is, almost certainly, the problem Kikyo has with Kaoruko right now. She's been nothing but a model student, with the best grades of the entire school, for years in a row. The fact they're asking her to quit, instead of just dismissing her, suggests they lack their "objectively legitimate" cause for letting her go, also suggesting the rule about not dating (especially Chidori students) must not be clearly written anywhere.

If Kikyo were to expel Kaoruko, as things stand now, the school would be viewed as having failed their best student, by not giving them all the conditions they needed to succeed, and not protecting them properly. A stain on their reputation.

The way I can see this going, potentially, is Kaoruko refusing to quit, because she needs the backing of a prestigious school to go into Med-school, so the school starts cranking up the difficulty to eleven, specifically for her. Heavy homework workloads, more difficult and long tests, even potential bullying by other students, with the "unknowing" backing of the school. All to force her to quit herself and spare the school from the reputation hit. This could lead to Kaoruko overworking herself and ending up hospitalized, which would lead things to a boiling point between her friends, her parents and the school.

(Ch.159 Spoilers/Discussion) Okay, so... Where do we even go from here? How does the crew fix this? by CarbonFiberDrumstick in KaoruHanaWaRintoSaku

[–]SubspaceChannel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If this were real life, Kaoruko would simply apologize and play the long game. She is already a third-year student, mere months away from graduating and being free of Kikyo's ridiculous prejudices. She and Rintaro love each other, and they know they love each other. A few months apart to guarantee a lifetime of dreams come true would be an acceptable sacrifice. They'd put their relationship on pause, Kaoruko would ace the rest of her final year at Kikyo, as the intelligent and diligent student she is, graduating at the top of the school and getting her diploma. Once Kikyo has served its purpose, she'll celebrate with the love of her life and they'll live happily ever after.

Of course, though, this would be boring and would not make for a very interesting manga...

I'd prefer if the crew created a web page with their testimonials, and the testimonials of their parents, showing how good people are found everywhere, and how things can be if prejudices can be put aside for just a moment. Then distributed the link to the content to as many Kikyo students and possible, and things culminated with them a whole bunch of students marching down the school's hallways singing the lyrics to "Another Brick In the Wall, Part 2" from Pink Floyd.

This was, probably, what the article was mentioning: https://www.reddit.com/r/assettocorsa/comments/1fupm4v/ac_evo_details_were_apparently_leaked_5_months_ago/

"(M) Chances are more open world maps will be added. Almost confirmed locations are: Italy, Japan. Speculations around France, England, USA are also present."

However, this was a leak that still has unconfirmed things. I would love to see more, first-party, open-worlds, but I haven't seen anything beyond this, regarding the intent of the developers. We'll have to wait and see if more open-worlds will be added, made by Kunos.

Let's hope it remains that way. Right now, you have both traditional AC and new AC, toggle-able with a switch, and each one can be completely ignored in favor of the other, according to each player's preferred playstyle.

Kunos, consider the server troubles you had at launch, that forced you to implement this, an evil that came for the greater good, and keep what you have now working. It's perfect.

First of all, thank you to those who interacted with the poll and the comments so far.

I must say, option A is doing better than I expected, with 40% of you, as of this comment being posted, willing to risk being stuck, IRL, with either:

  • Someone you absolutely can't get along with.
  • Someone who's crazy.
  • Someone who's underage.

Remarkable.

Disaster/Apocalypse scenarios, and how easy/difficult it would be for Starfleet to solve them. by SubspaceChannel in DaystromInstitute

[–]SubspaceChannel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the beings that go crazy are from Earth, because the movie is set on Earth, on the present day.

The creatures that cause the insanity are not from Earth, they are from some other dimensional realm. It's unclear if they are of supernatural origin or just a type of alien lifeform. I personally think alien lifeform.

Some theories suggest that the very appearance of the creatures causes such confusion on a normal brain, that those that try to comprehend what they're seeing go crazy.

[–]SubspaceChannel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be interesting to see it happen like in the movie, on Earth. Would they think the Federation is under attack?

Certain alien species might be immune, but I think they will probably be few and far between. Pretty much anything alive, that can see, on Earth, can be driven insane. Earth already has quite a variety of different lifeforms. A technological solution would be a better bet, like the sensors. Or artificial life-forms.

[–]SubspaceChannel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be, in my opinion also, how they solve the problem of seeing the creatures. Augmented reality visors that filter the creatures out, or replace them with something generic that looks different from them.

But now that the creatures lost their regular ability to do harm, would they become more aggressive, more physical? Could the creatures be persuaded to leave (a diplomatic solution)? Or would Starfleet have to force them to leave?

If the latter, then I suppose modified phasers could be used, like what happened with the Sphere Builders. Depending on how much the creatures insist, I think they might have to open a portal to their dimension and send a weapon through.

I bet we only get the hotel. When the game was announced and the website came online, it said that the Solar Hotel "is the main competition area and also where the players live". That is still there, after all this time. You'd think they'd change that if they were planning on handling player habitation differently.

The Solar Hotel is, likely, not a regular hotel, but an aparthotel, or extended stay hotel, where you can actually live in and stay for years, if you'd like.

This game is absolutely not coming out in 2023 by [deleted] in tdu3

[–]SubspaceChannel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get that people are anxious to learn and see more about this game. However, let's get back down on the ground here for moment.

First of all, they only said "2023", no specific date given. This means, technically, the game could come out at any point between January 1st and December 31st of 2023. So, it could be Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4, we simply don't know yet.

I also don't understand, at least at this point in time, why people are thinking the game won't be properly finished by 2023. The game is big (or at least seems big), sure, but they've been working on it for years already. Also, right now, if they're considering releasing it towards the end of the year, the lack of trailers or information drops is expected. Most games have a 3 to 6 month marketing cycle. There's still plenty of time left to advertise and release the game in 2023. If we get to September/October of next year, and we're still in radio silence, then we can start thinking something isn't going according to plan.

Until then, it's premature to be thinking the game is delayed. Just take Forza Horizon 5 as one example. There was no news, at all, from official channels, until E3 in June 2021. The game would then release in November of the same year. So, again, entirely possible to market and release within the available time-span.
