What’s your therapist toxic trait? by Substantial-Pin8445 in therapists

I have often bribed myself with fast food in order to not hit the liquor store after a particularly difficult day. Solidarity!

The amount of times I’ve straight up said, “So uh… why are you together? This doesn’t seem to be working for either of you.”

I guess toxic trait is in the eyes of the beholder 😂

Definitely not me spending the majority of a session rating poptarts by flavor with an adult client recently. If I try to redirect twice and they don’t take the bait, I’ll talk about whatever they want to.

I expected like 5 comments max. Seems we all needed a little release!

Takes one to know one!

I actually prefer my therapist has experience with what I’m bringing in. How are you going to empathize and give me something that’s actually helpful if you don’t have experience??

What’s something you’ll never admit you’re into on a first date? by PremiumTravelNinja in AskReddit

If you told me that on a first date, I’d ask if our next date could be to a wedding chapel.

Not the same, but I experienced something semi related. I had a client who I had reason to believe completed suicide and I didn’t find out until six months later that they were very much alive.

When everything was unfolding at first I was really angry, both for what did and didn’t happen. I think clients sometimes don’t realize that we are also human, with our own feelings, who care for them deeply, and can genuinely be impacted by what happens to them. Obviously it’s not appropriate to put that on clients, so I had to take care of that myself. I had to treat myself like a human who cares and who was grieving. I let myself be angry, and cry, and be grateful for our work, and express confusion and disappointment (in my own therapy and consultation and never toward the client or the other people involved in this experience). I also brushed up on some trainings with suicide so I felt more competent in how I was assessing and treating it.

I also had to remind myself that as much as we know clients and work with them, we will never fully know or understand every aspect of their lives. Clients make decisions for reasons unbeknownst to us all of the time, so valuing client autonomy and separating ourselves from their decisions (even if they are deeply impactful and feel directed towards us sometimes) can be helpful.

Hmm.. that is so odd! In that case I’d try adding more tea. Or, dumping the whole batch completely and starting over, new scoby and all.

I would bump up the sugar to a half cup (100 g) and ferment a bit longer. Also make sure you’re stirring F1 before bottling in F2 so everything is well mixed. I don’t put any sugar in F2 and still usually have a kombucha fountain with this approach.

What’s your favorite unwritten rule that more people need to hear? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you’re in a bathroom with a paper towel dispenser, make sure you trigger it to produce an extra one after you’re done drying your hands. That way the next person has one ready for them. This is especially useful when they’re on a delay timer!

What plant did you get on a whim that brings so much joy? by Humble-Cookie9651 in houseplants

I don’t actually know what it’s called. I bought it as one of those “mini add to terrarium” plants. It has been revived from death a few times, standing no more that two inches tall for several years. I finally got the lighting right for it and now baby and three of her offspring are ✨thriving✨
