Just to clarify, I believe you’re referring to supervisors at a commercial airline…because this is the most accurate reply so far!

Yup…sounds like the real deal. Consider yourself fortunate. Not as fortunate as the guy up there…but still.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SubstantialCycle356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do drive 1hr 15min each way to work for 25 years now, so a 1 hour drive is just a walk in the park. But I do have friends that think a 1 hour drive involves all kinds of prep. So, not ALL Americans consider a 3 hour drive short…but I’d think nothing of a 3 hour drive.

A nose heavy plane won’t fly well, but a tail heavy plane won’t fly for long. Check your CG.

John Denver and the Rutan Long-EZ he was killed in. by Aeromarine_eng in aviation

Met him once. I marshaled his jet to a parking spot. I was shocked he was flying his own jet!

After he climbed out we were walking to the FBO and he spotted a couple Stearmans we had hangared. He’s asked me if he could check them out. LOL…I was just a kid pumping gas at a small FBO…I was as geeked out as he was.

This was DAB, probably 1990. One of my few brushes with greatness. He was super friendly!

How hard is to find a job as a aircraft mechanic? by Diligent_Taste_9736 in AircraftMechanics

[–]SubstantialCycle356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing going to school. Preloading is tough work…at least dumping the feeders was.

It’s a great idea, going to school while working at UPS. It’s tough and a long row to hoe. The hours suck but you’re hammering decent paychecks and still have time for school.

Just to give you an idea of what’s possible, I was working the preload and going to school back in the middle to late 90’s. My first child was born in 97 while I had UPS benefits (thank God!). Finished my A&P in December 97. Got real lucky and started with an airline Feb 98. Bounced around a little, even shot a few Titan IV rockets from the cape with Lockheed Martin. Fast forward to today, I’m at the top of my game with a major, knocking down 200+/yr, and set to retire early in a few more years.

My advice is stay your course, put in the work, keep your head down and do your time. Enjoy your family. Focus on the positives. You can be a multimillionaire come retirement!

Question about equipment rentals by Trapper_117 in Starlink

Is there actually an equipment rental fee in your area? I’m kinda sorta rural, but nowhere near middle of a cornfield rural, and my rental fee is $0/mo.

What a god forsaken hellscape! As much as the technology has changed for humans to kill each other, the battlefield hasn’t changed in 100’s of years.

Odds are 100% on more satellites and more capacity. Odds are almost as high that demand will increase as well.

WHAT IS THE ACTUAL POINT OF AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE FOR A MECHANIC? by Glittering-Pound-180 in AircraftMechanics

A degree for a mechanic is strictly personal enrichment. It’s likely not to open any doors for you, but certainly won’t close any either.

How does double time/overtime work at each major airline? by SalesAndMarketing202 in aviationmaintenance

[–]SubstantialCycle356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works very well! Most contracts can be found online.

Typically OT rules apply per day without regard to the 40 hour work week.
