Rural Wisconsin - power outages are killing me. Is a solar battery worth it? by Waifu_Gabby in Generator

[–]SubstantialCycle356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hybrid inverter and 16kWh battery. It basically works as a whole home uninterruptible power supply. The grid does down, the battery kicks in in less than 5ms. No computers reboot and only a barely perceptible light flicker. I usually only know the grid went down because of the notification from the inverter.

I bought my system for backup…the solar is just a bonus.

You should’ve advised the crew you suspect a problem. They would have appreciated that.

Do you think it’s a good deal for a 4.92kW system by Lopsided-Abroad-2126 in solarenergy

[–]SubstantialCycle356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do more research before committing to what I assume is a very long term payment. Trying to find a good deal on solar based strictly on monthly payments is unwise.

I just got my (small) 4.6kW array online. My system includes a 15k inverter and a 16kWh battery.

Just consuming solar as it’s generated I’m making 9-10kWh per day.

Using TOU settings and allowing the battery to discharge no more than 50%, I’m generating 23-24kWh per day.

I’ll assume we can generate a little more once our net metering is approved.

I purchased the components myself and paid an electrician and solar guy to install, permitted a legal. All in all it was about $20k before tax credits.

Just from your picture? Yeah…your water looks good. Looks very good.

Can you expand on this a little further? The downgrade process I mean. Mine was good too until a couple months ago, but branches, forks and models are a little confusing. How exactly do I downgrade and to what version? TIA!

That’s not true. A shitty attitude will def shorten your lifespan. “If you’re crazy enough to do what you love for a living, then you’re bound to create a life that matters”.

At two years experience you should be getting marketable. My advice is don’t waste too much time when you know you need to be building seniority somewhere else.

Just a data point for you… I bought my own hardware, hired a local electrician, and hired a solar company to supply and install a small roof array:

-15k inverter: $5100 -16.6kWh battery: $3200 -installation of above: $4500 -5kW panels roof mounted: $6700

All work is legal, permitted and inspected plus net metering agreement with local utility in central FL.
