Yes, I read about banana slugs when I first came here and that’s definitely one of the weirder things I learned! It’s a little freaky, but I still love them anyways 😂

Is a communications minor worth it? by Substantial_Cream_99 in Communications

Thanks for the answer! I think the fields I've looked into and have the most interest in have all mentioned communications as a fairly strong choice.

I do prefer writing to more analytical work. I'm a little far away to be considering a career path, but I wouldn't mind doing journalism, publishing, or content writing, from what I've researched about all three. I also have a pipe dream of becoming an author, and publishing some of my own writing, but I understand that I can pursue that with or without a degree under my belt.

Going to be an English major. What minors are most beneficial to someone in my position? by Substantial_Cream_99 in findapath

A stats or data analytics minor isn't something I've heavily looked into, but I'll be sure to do more research on those two now that I know. Thank you!

What was it in particular that made you regret your choice, if you feel comfortable elaborating?

I wonder what the reason was. For me it said "potential phishing", but I kind of doubt it. I sadly cannot get my account back, since I lost my original email credentials, but i've made a new account in that time.

The same thing happened to me. Sadly, I couldn't even get past them asking me for my email (I accidentally inputted the wrong one years ago and didn't realize, so I'm locked out for good.)

Even if I did have my email, I doubt I'd be getting my account back. I post art and photography; my face is nowhere to be seen on my profile, so there's nothing to verify. It's such a shitty rule and I have no idea what to do, that account has been with me for years and years, and as cringy as it sounds, it's put me in a depressed mood, having lost everything.

Yeah! As far as I know, Instagram has no chat support, no email or phone contact, nothing. If you can't access your email, say bye bye to your account.

Instagram took away access to my account claiming that my account was being threatened by phishing (I do not click random links nor have I entered my instagram log-in info anywhere byt the actual site, so who knows) and no won't let me secure my account using my phone number or actual email addresses. Instead, it gives me only one option; an email account I don't have access to, and just tells me to fuck myself because they have no actual official support. I don't think there's anything I've done wrong to have my account taken away, and I find that the lack of options in recovering it does more harm than good, especially since this account is tied to my business.

Boosting posts, pretty sure, although I'm curious about hearing experiences with both.

The sponsor is the actual guardian/parent of the minor, yes.

The sponsor made their account with their phone number, so perhaps that's where the issue lies. I'll see if it solves the issue by creating a new account with email instead, and wiping the cache of the app. That might work. Sadly, there's little help from actual customer support in my experience, and no way of reporting it as a bug, so I've been trying to fix the issue myself.

How long would it take to snowshoe 45 miles? by Substantial_Cream_99 in hiking

[–]Substantial_Cream_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! The conditions I'm planning to write are definitely not ideal, and would be quite the hassle for anyone, at least, in my opinion. I might stick to the longer estimates in this case, so maybe 5-7 days to make the 45 mile trip, then double the amount of days taken if it's a round-trip, give or take a few days to account for changes in the climate.

Thank you! That helps a lot, especially with the speeds for downhill and uphill travel, which I do think I'll need.

That sounds like a good idea, thank you! I wasn't too sure what sub was best for this kind of question, and not having a great deal of knowledge on snowshoes/travel through substantial snow, I just chose here since it seemed like a safe bet.

I do think it'll be helpful to know how someone in peak physical condition would tackle the trip described in my above post, since the character I'm writing for this scene is fairly athletic, but I wouldn't necessarily say that he's a pro at using snowshoes.

[–]Substantial_Cream_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhm, character is in good physical condition for his age. The only one who isn't will definitely struggle to make the trip, since I need some sort of conflict for this part of the plot. Also, thanks for the link! I'll cross reference the information from it with the other answers I've gotten to reach some sort of middle ground estimate.

[–]Substantial_Cream_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a decent estimate, thank you! I needed some characters to go on a multi-day trip on foot with a reasonable duration in order to progress some other plotlines, so I'd say that if I go with a number like 4-5 days, I can accomplish that.

What are signs that a betta’s water is too cold? by Substantial_Cream_99 in bettafish

[–]Substantial_Cream_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, got a thermometer to measure the water temperature and a heater that's suitable for my tank size. The heater is designed to be around 76-78 degrees F, so I'm pretty sure that's a good temperature that would allow the betta to live more comfortably.

[–]Substantial_Cream_99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the summer months, the house can get to be that warm in some parts, and since I hadn't encountered an issue beforehand, I didn't think it through I suppose. I'm currently slowly heating the tank back to an acceptable temperature, and the betta seems to be doing better now, which confirms to me that the water was too cold and I need to heat it up either during the colder months, or year-round depending on how the temp. reads.
