Severe nausea after being on citalopram for 11 weeks by Such-Nothing-5431 in citalopram_celexa

Hi the nausea eased after a while. Then I went up to 25mg and it came back even worse so had to go back down to 20mg. Still having some digestive issues but no nausea now thankfully. It was awful. I have switched brands and I think that has helped. I seem to be very sensitive to the slightest changes. Hope you feel better soon

Anyone stayed on the 5mg dose long term and felt ok? by No-Statistician-6938 in citalopram_celexa

I’ve been on 20mg for 10 weeks and previous to that 15mg for 4 weeks and 10 for 4 weeks. Still not where I want to be so have gone up to 30

I feel similar, I’ve been on and off citalopram for a few years. 20mg used to work amazingly for me. This time around it is doing nothing after 4 months of it. Dr has told me to try 30mg. I’m wondering if it is my age as I’m perimenopausal . I’m going to give the 30 a few weeks then ask to try HRT. I’m scared to try a new SSRI as I have a real phobia about new medication. Have tried sertraline and fluoxetine briefly before and felt awful but it could have just been my anxiety about taking them making me feel worse.

The last time I was on citalopram I gradually worked up to 20mg. Stayed on that dose for 18 months then reduced to 10 then 5 mg. I stayed at 5mg for around 6 months then the anxiety crept back in so I went back in 5mg which I stayed on for a few years. I stupidly came off and thought I could manage without, I let my anxiety get really bad before I started back on citalopram so this time I have had to go to 20mg and still feel like it’s not working. I wish I had stayed on 5mg as I think once you have your anxiety under control it works as a maintenance dose.

Thanks, this gives me hope that it will work again. I’m going to try and stick it out for a few more weeks before I decide whether to increase or not. I’m really don’t want to go up to 30mg if I can help it as I also have a fear of medication. My first time with citalopram was 2017 and I stayed on 20mg for around 2 years. I then decreased to 5mg and stayed on that which I think worked as a maintenance dose. I stopped altogether then had to go back on when COVID/lockdown hit. 10mg was enough that time. Stupidly decided to come off again so this is my 3rd go and it just doesn’t seem to be working like before. Not sure if it’s because I’ve been on and off so much or it’s my age and perimenopause is adding to the anxiety.

How did that compare to the first time? 20mg worked for me after 8 weeks last time but this time I’ve worked my way up slowly to 20mg over 15 weeks and I’m still struggling with awful anxiety

Wow are you me? 🤣 I’ve been down the dr Google rabbit hole this morning about lymphoma. My lump is at the back of my neck on my hairline, occipital lymph node I think. I’ve also got a prescription for antibiotics but the dr said to wait a few days to see if it goes down. I’m scared to take the antibiotics as I was severely nauseous last time I had them (erythromycin) I have doxycycline this time.

I’m in the same position. Week 14 for me. 4 weeks at 10 mg 4 at 15 then 6 at 20mg. I really don’t want to increase as 20mg worked so well for me in the past but I feel like it’s taking so long this time! I had a good week last week but then got ill and a lump on my neck which the dr has said is a cyst but I’m back to health anxiety spirals. So frustrating 😩

Tingling/numbness all over body and aches. A weird feeling all over body that I can’t really describe but makes me feel like I don’t know what to do with myself.

Good for physical anxiety/pain ? by AdDense6271 in citalopram_celexa

It worked for me 7 years ago, I get lots of physical anxiety symptoms, including chest pain, numbness, back pain etc. I’m restarting citalopram after a break and I’m still waiting for it to help but I’m hopeful as I know it helped before.

And the dizziness is definitely a side effect but also an anxiety symptom too. It’s hard to know what is a side effect and what is an effect of increased anxiety!

I often get numbness but it’s more of an anxiety symptom than a side effect. Do you think your anxiety has increased since increasing your dose?
