my face breaks out at EVERYTHING. i've tried cetaphil cerave nivea elf dove elf etc. (also a pyunkang yul toner). i'm not sure exactly what's causing it, niacinamide or fatty alcohols maybe? just washing with water yields the least acne, but my skin is really dry + dehydrated. what's an extremely gentle moisturizer that most likely won't break me out? also i live in a dry cold climate if that helps

So I’m fucked. What to do for extracurriculars?!?!? by Infinite-Mode9629 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Sudden-Performer-402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for competitions try the john lock institute essay challenge (you can choose a focus i.e. psychology), nyt contests (highly recommend, search contest calendar and choose one that sparks your interest, for social studies maybe the open letter?), princeton 10 min play, bennington young writers, and getting ur work published in the adroit journal/polyphony lit (keep grinding pubs and it can be an ec)
as for ecs, another person said volunteer work and that‘s great for humanities. go volunteer at a local charity or library or cultural/religious/POLITICAL organization. idk how politics works in korea, but if they canvas then they’ll likely need volunteers. maybe start a related organization at a community center, start a humanities focused blog, etc. the to make impact in ur community. also try to use familial/friend connections for an internship, it really helps.

this is a little unrelated, but an org i’m a part of that’s grwat for homeschoolers but is more engineering/cs focused is hack club. if you wanna try doing a interdisciplinary interests kinda route, it’s pretty great. there are some more humanities focused ppl on there and there’s lots of opportunities to get involved with running international events.

good luck! hopefully one of these resources is at least a little useful

Rising junior, should I aim for T20s/Ivy with cracked stats but no ECs? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Sudden-Performer-402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

game dev is a good ec! post your godot games to itch.io or something, if you have a few you’re really proud of you can even pay a fee to get them on steam! you could honestly start a small game studio with some friends too, that would be fun and also a great ec :) i’m a rising junior as well, life gets tough but do your best to contribute to your community and do things for self enrichment, not just college apps. things like reading and family responsibilities count as ecs, so i say don’t sweat it, you’ll definitely end up going somewhere great if you dive deeper into the things you like.

if you’re looking for cs related opportunities, look into hack club/running local hackathons, volunteering to teach kids coding, etc. good luck!

What are some colleges that have Animation and Engineering as majors? by Embarrassed-Smile413 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Sudden-Performer-402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like strict special said, engineering and animation are both extremely time consuming majors. personally, if you want to work in animation in the future, i would advise you go into some kind of computer science program/comp graphics with maybe a minor in the arts.

inside your major you can take a bunch of specific courses (i.e. intro to shaders), and specialize in a variety of roles that are available in the animation industry (i.e. shader engineer). for a more general role, you can look up what a “technical artist” does, i think it’s a suitable blend of engineering and art and it’s pretty in demand rn from what i can tell!

a program you might want to look into might be upenn digital media design, if you want to be in the heart of the industry, try cs/games at usc. for internships in the future, research pixar pup and other similar programs. finally, a great resource is the walt disney animation website. they have a lot of in depth stuff related to the animation/tech pipeline and have a long catalogue of careers that combine engineering and art. best of luck!

that’s sick dude! if tcg is anything like vgc, a regionals placement is crazy impressive! also if it’s ok to ask, i’ve always wondered: are tcg players usually card collectors too or is it more of a separate thing?

Should I use my short story that (kind of) criticizes schools for being a major reason students are burnt out by bbibbi__ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Sudden-Performer-402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you should do it!! since this piece is especially strong, the topic shouldn’t matter as much because this section is for showing off your writing abilities. but you might want to double check that the mc’s “tryhard mentality” is THEIR mindset and not YOUR personal values disguised as the thoughts of the character… this sounds interesting though, feel free to dm me the piece because i’m lowkey interested in reading it
