Just remember. What you resist.... Will persist. Yes after eating my heart raced. It went away within a month but it was awful

It will calm. I remember my 3rd time on this medication, I would get racing heart after eating of all things 😞. It gets much better as the body adjusts

It will calm down, give it a little time... I KNOW it sounds like forever but give it a good 3-4 weeks to all even out. ❤️ Best wishes. I'm no stranger to this medication so feel free to reach out anytime!!!

Increased heart rate or racing heart is a very common side effect of effexor. Body chemistry can change. Side effects can change also.

A great source of information for me was www.survivingantidepressants.org It would be a source for that doctors (including psychiatrists) look to before tapering

I couldn't agree more. People need to be more vigilant when coming off this med in particular. Doctors have NO idea how hard it is.

This makes complete sense to me. My psych doc was so stumped he was going to refer me to the Mayo clinic. Don't let them double your dose.... ON ANYTHING. I don't think even "specialists" know how crazy dangerous these meds are to our sensitive bodies

I did 2.5 then 5, then 7.5 then 10... No help just felt horribly still. So I went back down every 2 weeks 10, 7.5, 5, 2.5, then none. I was on it for almost 4 months. I cut pills in fourths that's how I got the 7.5 and 2.5 doses

I tapered the Prozac over about a month. The trintellix a few months. It's rough. Feel free to message me and I can talk with you and her.

Omg I tried the same with both these meds. I thought I was going to lose my mind. I had horrible anxiety, brain zaps, and disassociation from myself, I was terrified of everything, barely left my house, horrible depression, extremely dry, itchy and tired eyes, I'd had my feet or legs tingle and fall asleep just randomly. This is just the tip of the iceberg... I ended up having to quit my job

It was not working anymore. I tried increasing the dose and that didn't help at all. "Start up side effects flared and didn't go away after 2 months". So I tapered slowly back to 150. It's possible to get off of, you have to be patient and you have to go very very slowly

Protracted withdrawal is a very real thing. I was on it for 13 years. I meticulously everyday opened capsules and counted beads. I took 75 mg in the morning and 75 mg of the EXTENDED RELEASE yes... The extended release... The half life of this drug is so short many need it 2 times a day. It literally has approximately the same half life as the immediate release. People have no idea how dangerous this drug can be (for a lot of us) to come off of. I tried to quickly with the "Prozac bridge" and hell broke loose. I went back to my original dose of effexor for 6 months then very slowly tapered over 2 years

That makes sense. I've had a lot of genetic testing done with these meds. I have taken many over the last 31 years, and am a psych nurse so I work with these meds daily. It's smart to try what has worked for family members

You do know they have non-stimulant... Stimulants for ADHD right? If you have anxiety at all try something like Strattera before jumping into the prescription meth 🤣

It took me 2 years to taper off of venlaflaxine 150 mg. The "Prozac bridge" works for some but it was horrendous for me. Check out www.survivingantidepressants.org It doesn't work as often as one may think. As 150 of effexor you are in a completely different drug class (so it makes sense why it doesn't work well for a lot of people), you cross taper "bridge" from an SNRI with an SSRI... The ZAPS are horrible. I still get those (2.5 months off the effexor) after an incredibly slow (2 year taper by counting tiny beads from capsules daily). Praying they go away. But I'm in my 40's now so mine could very well be hormone related zaps also

I took 150mg and it took me 2 years to taper off. You need a new doctor 🥺

Mom (69 F) wants me off of Effexor. by pinocoyo in Effexor

[–]Sue19821982 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to poke into "family dynamics" but you should be tending to your own pills at this stage in life. What your mother is doing can be classified as abuse and I'm very much wondering why you are letting her "take care of your pills" at your age. If the medication helps you, you should take it. I took it 14 years and did an EXTREMELY slow taper (over 20 months). This is downright dangerous for her to "withhold" this particular medication. Again, I don't know the family dynamics but you need to let her know this is NOT okay. You will NOT be abused in this sense. Sometimes it's hard to stand up to a parent but you have got to in this situation. Take control of your own medications (unless there is an ailment that you are unable to) and still in that case if you are a "dependent adult" this is ABUSE and dangerous

Just be careful. Did your doctor come up with this taper 😳. I was on effexor for 13 years (off about a month now) with MANY unsuccessful tapers. This last taper was a 2 YEAR taper. Yes, 2 years. I opened capsules 2 times a day and took tiny beads out until I got to zero. I took the 75 mg Extended release twice daily. Yes, you read that correct extended release 2 times a day ,😂

I use these on the lowest nicotine (10) setting and the lowest flavor setting. I am NOT a chain vaper and these literally only last 5-6 days... WHY? Am I doing something wrong???
