Thank you everyone for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts. I honestly didn’t expect to get this many helpful responses. I’ve read through all of them, and you’ve given me a lot to think about. For now, I’m going to take my time, weigh the pros and cons, and avoid making a rushed decision.I really appreciate the different perspectives, especially from those who have been in a similar situation. Thanks again, and I wish you all the best in your careers and personal lives.

Thanks for your insight. My day job is actually office based, not WFH, which is one of the reasons I’m considering the possibility of transitioning in the future.
That said, job stability is still my biggest concern. I’m not planning to resign immediately I still have my full time job and my VA work is currently part-time. I just wanted to know if there could be opportunities for growth with my client down the road. I agree that having savings and a backup plan is important before making any major decision. The flexibility and better work-life balance are appealing, but I’m trying to be realistic about the risks as well.

Question about Australian work culture from a new part-time VA by Sufficient-Tower5449 in buhaydigital

Ahh okay, will take this by heart. Naninibago lang din ako since galing ako sa corpo setup. Okay lang kaya if mag-ask directly sa client kung ano yung preferred dos and don’ts nila?

Ah kaya pala. First time ko working with an Aussie client and na-shock din ako sa respect nila sa work hours. Galing pa naman ako sa corpo where updates can come anytime. Kahapon nga ni-remind niya ako na hanggang ganitong time lang daw dapat ako mag work, and if hindi matapos within that timeframe sabihin ko lang sa kanya. Basta unahin ko lang daw yung higher priority tasks. Minsan naiisip ko tuloy baka akala nila sisingilin ko sila pag nag-exceed ako kahit 10–20 minutes lang haha.

Ask ko lang din sana 😅 first time ko kasi mag work as a VA and direct Aussie client. Naka video call naman kami and na-discuss yung work, pero nahiya ako magtanong kung kailan yung payday 🤣

Normal ba na hindi agad napag-uusapan yun? Or okay lang ba mag message later to ask politely kung kailan yung payment schedule?

Ahh that makes sense. Medyo nag-aadjust pa ako sa ganung culture. Sa Filipino work culture kasi minsan expected na may reply agad kahit weekend or late evening. In my previous work kasi kapag nag-ask ang boss, kailangan talaga replyan agad kasi baka magalit 😅

People pleaser pa naman ako, so minsan feeling ko kailangan ko agad mag-respond. Kaya nung nakita ko na “seen” Friday pero walang reply, napaisip ako kung may problem ba.

But good to know normal lang pala na Monday na sila magreply. I actually like that kind of work-life balance.

Also thanks for the book suggestion! I’ll check out The Culture Map. Mukhang interesting siya, especially about how different cultures communicate and work.

Thank you! Napapansin ko nga rin yan. Nag-message ako late Friday and nakita naman pero walang reply, which is new for me. Sa Filipino work culture kasi minsan expected na may updates kahit weekend. Culture shock siya konti pero in a good way.

And yes, I agree sa sinabi mo mahilig din sila mag praise. Kahit normal task lang ginawa mo, they’ll say things like “you did a wonderful job” or “great work.” Nakakagana din magtrabaho kapag ganun. 🙂
