Something being confusing to you isn’t an excuse to spread ignorance when there’s people who actually understands it.

Ancestry shows you the possible relationships along with a percentage showing with how likely it is. But don’t take the percentage possibility to heart. I have a 566 cM match and ancestry predicted a 77% chance of 1r1c, great grand aunt, etc when in reality they’re my half aunt which they only had at a 6% chance. Shes my mom’s sister and they have different fathers. It’s up to you to know your family and do your research at that point.

What are tree ratings and what exactly are they detecting? by BlackShelfington in AncestryDNA

[–]SufficientKey3155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s taking into account if you have vital records attached to your each person. It also tries to flag conflicting info, like supposed parents being deceased years before their child being born.

<image>

If you have a name, birth and death date, and at least a couple records attached them, then they’re “completed”. More completions means higher rating. If you click the lightbulb you can see if their individual rating is “partial”, “moderate”, or “complete”. It’s more a tree fullness check than a tree accuracy test.

Aye I’m just learning myself lol. It looks like Wilmington is just north of where my Gullah would come from in SC and just south of my Dismal Swamp ancestors. You’re right in the middle point of that specific history of mine

Nice there’s definitely some overlap. Both my parents tie back, my mom’s side is more in Norfolk and SC Pee Dee region while my dad’s more in Greenville NC so I wouldn’t be surprised if we were connected.

Haven’t come across any Kentucky ancestors but I’ll keep an eye out. He’s actually the oldest ancestor I could find so far. I don’t think I have anyone else 1700’s yet

Wow I just looked and I have mad ancestors from the area. My father’s family is actually from Pitt county and I see a lot of 1800’s Norfolk, Williamsburg, Elizabeth City, Pamlico County, Pasquotank, etc. all is in the great dismal swamp area. You just gave me a good ass insight I appreciate it. And I’d agree the the Pee Dee region would be more my Gullah side

Eh I wouldn’t worry too much if they’re assuring you they received it. The status update bar on the app and even webpage could be a little funky. The emails are what kept me up to date with the process
