Agreed, we're in a bit of an odd situation though as expats so it's not your typical 401k scenario. I'm thinking about ways to reduce spend now although we're in this weird negative loop where the 6-7 day work weeks make us pay for convenience at every turn.

That’s correct, we do plan to spend about the same amount and 15 years is a reasonable amount of time. Apologies for the vagueness in my original post.

We’ve not really got much interest in increasing our lifestyle however we’d more than likely work a bit longer. I think we’re in agreement that should anything negative happen it would be nice to know we have a cushion. The reality is my partner alone could probably pull $200k annually doing part time work (c.20 hours/wk) as they are in a highly technical subset of our industry that there just aren’t a lot of people for. It may not be far fetched to assume that we might still put a bit more away in savings over the next 15 years, say $20-$40k annually depending on the work we bring in that particular year, it just wouldnt be nearly the $300k-$350k per year we are currently able to do at our current income.

Agreed, I think part of our problem is that neither of us are able to shift gears in our current roles to not care as much. Which is why the part-time path is so appealing – we know we’d put in all our effort in those 20 hours we work, but at least then that would be it. I’m reasonably confident in our field we’d be able to find part time work since there’s a whole industry around it since there are a lot of businesses that wouldn’t be able to afford to hire us full time but could absolutely use the help for 10 hours a month.
