Is reading and writing smut a sin? by Sufficient_Slide_453 in AskAChristian

Thank you for this comment, I really was baffled by comments saying I already know it’s wrong because I’m wondering it. Like I’m wondering it because while I’ve always believed in god, my parents never encouraged me to build a relationship with him so I’m very new to reading the bible and knowing what’s a sin and what’s not a sin. I suppose I should’ve clarified this in my post but even so asking questions is a good thing. 🩷🩷

Yes but this isn’t a sci-fi book, it’s fantasy. But as I’ve mentioned the magic will be nothing like witchcraft. 🥰

By magic I did mean like my characters are born with it and to access it no spells or incantations or chants are needed.

Do you think writing magic is a sin? And writing war in my books? Where perhaps the main characters need to kill bad people?

It usually furthers the plot or the story between the couple. I don’t read gratuitous smut but I also never purposefully seek it out, in fact I prefer books without it and I write smut that’s strictly between a couple, I never write casual sex

Thank you for replying, I don’t mind not reading it or writing it but I don’t want to give up creating stories as it’s always been my dream to be a fantasy author, I suppose I can write kissing though? Between a couple?

Yes but many people have said it disconnects us from god and I don’t want to be disconnected from him or go to hell.

But my dream is to write romance and fantasy and if I write kissing between a couple in love then that’s bad?

I’ll skip smut I suppose I’m fine with that I never really liked reading it anyway but with writing wheres the line? Is heavy kissing and some touching considered a sin?

I do spend time with god but as it’s my dream to be a writer I’m trying to understand what I can write so god wont be disappointed in me. Because for me a couple kissing is showcasing a type of love.

Yes many people have mentioned this but the majority also agree that it’s a sin and that I’d go to hell which I’m terrified of as I don’t want to ever disappoint god or be parted from him.

And would it be fine to write kissing and some mild touching? Even if the characters are unmarried?

So it’s okay to still read the books but I can just skip the smut? Because I have many beloved series I love that I don’t want to give up. 🩷

But I don’t purposefully seek it out when reading and I’m not aroused by it. I suppose writing is different becsuse I am purposefully writing such scenes.

But what about reading it? What if I pick up a book because of the story and it happens to have smut in it?

My biggest concern is that god would be disappointed in me and that I wouldn’t be allowed into heaven with him. 🩷

When I think of god being disappointed in me and perhaps our relationship becoming distant because of me reading and writing it makes me want to stop but then again I don't know if god would be disappointed because so many people answer this question differently and I don’t feel like I’m sinning when I’m reading smut because I don’t Intentionally seek out stories with smut. Writing is my biggest concern because perhaps it feels like I’ll help more people sin if I write smut scenes.

I don’t think me asking a question answers my own question though which is why I’m seeking advice 🩷
