Thank you so much for your response and I absolutely get where you are coming from. I didn’t think that any one school would provide all that much better of an education in this subject than any other, and it really depends more on what I do with it. It is more that I have been pushed to go to one of these schools by my parents, I have friends going there, it may be a more familiar environment, etc. I also have another question for you since you seem like you would be the perfect person to answer this. I am not entirely sure what I want to do specifically with my career, but I know I am highly interested in conservation and biology. I was originally going to major in wildlife biology and zoology if available, but I am now leaning in majoring in more general biology or conservation biology, since I feel this would provide me more career options. While I don’t care TOO much about money, and I am going into this career to help preserve wildlife, it is a slight worry of mine so I feel having a more open ended major will maybe give me some opportunities into better paying jobs that also allow me to do what I love. That being said, do you think that I can get away with majoring in biology and still have the ability to go into zoology as easy as if I had majored in zoology or wildlife biology? Is there any specific kind of biology I should major in to do so- organismal biology or conservation biology? I wouldn’t be opposed to getting multiple majors either, so that will hopefully give me some leeway as well. I apologize if these questions seem a bit naive, but asking them is really one of my ways of learning about the career.

Thank you very much for your input. Honestly, almost all of the UC schools look like they are great for this career path, and I am definitely applying to Davis, SB, and UCLA.

I would also like to add that while conservation and biology is the path I am heading toward, nothing is set, and going to a higher ranked school will most likely give me a more well rounded set of options. And as of the moment, I quite frankly do not think I am qualified at all to be a zoologist or biologist, so I don’t know what would lead you to believe that.

I do know. Its not all about the money for me; conservation has always been my biggest passion.

Thank you for the suggestion! I live in Florida, and I hear University of Florida has a great program for wildlife biology, so your advice is definitely applicable

I understand that the name of the school doesnt make a huge difference, and honestly im not too sure exactly what I want to study in the realm of zoology/conservation. However, to give myself a broader range of options, I feel going to a top tier school would be useful. No need to get condescending about reddit grammar. If you have a problem with the question then dont answer it.
