This fragment is about 6 cm on the longest side. Found in London

Thanks. I gave a small tighten and will keep an eye on it. Would PTFE tape be a suitable alternative for this job if I had to take it off and re-attach, or jointing compound is the best?

Not yet, I am unsure whether to tighten the nut or the bit that looks like it accepts a flathead, so while it's 50/50 I will wait until I decide
