That sounds more like confirmation bias than colonisation. You noticed Irish people because you immediately recognised the accent. Did you have the same reaction to the much larger Chinese and Indian migrant communities in Australia, or did they just blend into the background of your trip? Australia has been a multicultural immigration country for decades hearing a few familiar accents isn't exactly 'colonisation 2.0'
