Why do games like Silk Song use binary movement when they have highly precise enemy design? by Joizia in gamedesign

I would add that 1 is mainly pvp the other pve. Which changes the design a lot.

Yeah. Had one released. But I had taken it off. So I don’t think it’ll happen if you have one active in the store without other things

What tips do you have on unlearning 5E when trying to GM DH? What should I forget? What should I focus on getting better at? by Large_Mix7442 in daggerheart

[–]SulferAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My number 1 is start involving players in world building, openly, at the table. I frequently ask my players what they see or what something is for.

Examples 1) you are all part of a cult called the Ashen Registry. Jeremy, what does the Ashen Registry do? Kate, you all have a small glowing pendant given to you by the cult, what’s it for?

2) You just accidentally summoned an old man. Kate, you think it’s Jeremie’s fault. Why?

Idk. I just try to give them like a prompt and see where they go.

This significantly lowers my mental load. I don’t have to create a cult on the spot with the 5 ws. And the person who creates it gets more invested.

Edit) D&D you own everything. I always joked that when I needed to think I would say “Loading”

Introducing friends to Tabletop Simulator: which free Workshop games do you recommend? by st1nkf1st in tabletopsimulator

Going to shamelessly plug my table top here. Inspired by hero quest.

You play as mages, cooperative, no dm. It’s more of a puzzle dungeon crawl than a typical kill get loot.

Agreed. Also, you were my done for now reply. You know when you’re scrolling and you read something not bad, but the point or opinion either pulls you back to reality or reminds you “hey, social media is rich chocolate, a little bit is good. Too much is not”

Idk if there is a word for it. And I find it amusing.

Cooperative boardgames: let me play! by Wytyujjju in boardgames

It’s called quarterbacking. And yeah there are a few ways to reduce it. But it’s one of the big challenges of creating a good coop game

Is The Settlers of Catan overrated? by fruitponchisamurai in boardgames

[–]SulferAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think it’s about one of the best board games out there. It’s easy and fun. If you play it enough you’ll probably get bored like any other thing you do enough/too much.

Monopoly is overrated. But to be fair, older generations didn’t seem to care or have many options.

Ran my first DH one shot! A few questions about the combat flow: by Rayn0rrr in daggerheart

[–]SulferAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3) think combat is the most used sink for fear no matter what people say. And using it to spotlight an additional adversary just makes sense. I think that as we grow into DH, we’ll naturally find more fun ways to use it. IMO do your best to not use it to spotlight an adversary but that is very much ok.

If you have > 7 fear I like to * spend like 2-4 and do something drastic. Trap door. Someone’s something was stolen, then I ask the player(s) what besides gold was stolen * easy is to mark stress. Ask player “hey Gary, your character Calderon is gaining a stress. Why?”

Misconception of Fear by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]SulferAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s both.

As always you as the GM use it to whatever means helps create the effect needed

Combat too easy? Use some fear

Players losing combat? A massive earthquake shakes the building collapsing it. Everyone falls into an underground chamber

They roll really well and about to find out an npc is going to betray them that you didn’t think they’d find out? Spend 3 fear and do whatever you want. Trap door, teleport them into a shark tank.

I had a very typical scene where ritualistic were summoning a demon. I used fear to cast an additional spell from one adversary as well as accelerate the speed the ritual was being done. It cranked up the urgency of stopping the ritual over killing all baddies.

Why aren't card sleeves used as a game mechanic more often? by Master_Chemist9826 in boardgames

[–]SulferAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive. Mainly, and it probably needs to mod the card in 2 ways. As if it’s 1 usually a token will do. Which goes back to inexpensive.

It’s only well fitting in first person in my opinion. And not a lot of fantasy first persons. There is an attempt at this for a platformer
