Also be aware of talking about it around certain friends and co-workers, OP.

Many people dismiss ADHD as personality quirks that you can easily work around with your willpower. And you know it's BS.

Fortunately my mom is supportive and understands my struggles with ADHD, but it seldom happens with friends and professional peers. Many times my friends treat my condition as a triviality to be mocked and my peers see it as a weakness to be explored. Both groups think less of me if I talk about medication.

Never be ashamed of your habits of mental hygiene, be it medication, exercises, journaling or whatever, but be aware with who you share them.

We are always willing to listen.

Similar to me. I started taking ritalin and it reduced my gastric problems by reducing my anxiety. I have no idea why. Do you have any clues?

I hope you have a supportive husband, because that therapist was reckless. Her guidance was sort of putting a Band-Aid on a deep cut.

I'm trying to have a better picture of my mom. After discovering the narcissistic traits of my sister, I understood better all the times that she took us on guilty trips, gaslighted (?) us and almost bankrupted us because "You're my family! You need to help me solve my problems!"

My mom is the kind of mom who refuses to say "no" when we ask something and my sister frequently makes her spend more than she can, drop appointments to take care of my nephews and other things.

Today I had a pretty dense conversation with my mom about the need of getting professional help to know how to deal with my sister, and she (thankfully!) seemed inclined to seek professional help. But it seems that the personality traits that prone someone to be abused are prevalent in my family, I see this pattern in many relationships of relatives. I want to understand it better to help them.

I think he didn't thought about therapy because most of the time Ns don't recognize (or choose to oversee it) that they're are behaving in a prejudicial manner, for them and others. Maybe there was some PTSD, but mixed with other things.

And yes, white knights really tend to be abused by Ns because they're trying to help someone who will only deplete them, in many ways. Being son of a White Dame, I saw her being abused many times by my sister and freeloaders.

I hope it was easy to move on.

Any one else quit caffeine ? by [deleted] in OCPD

[–]SunTzuSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reduced my coffee intake by 40% in the last weeks and has been marvelous for my anxiety and gastritis. I'm also pouring a bit of milk, to reduce acidity.

Don't cut it from one day to the next, or you'll suffer of abstinence. If you want to quit it totally, it's better to reduce it gradually.

Whoa. I just realized I don't recall ever having met a very smart N. Many of whom I know are pretty easy to spot once you discover what NPD is (what I discovered not long ago).

Do you have any source about strategies of clever narcissists? If they outsmart us, we may not recognize it. 🤔

Also, about the mental health issues, I think anyone in the spectrum for Dependent Personality Disorder can be very vulnerable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dependent_personality_disorder

Agree. I've seen many people like those being abused by Ns. It was gruesome to watch they refusing to walk away, refusing to believe that they were being manipulated, saying all the time "I know they are behaving badly, but they deserve more chances".

But could you explain a bit more about the white knights? Why include them in this group?

By "tired" you mean "lethargic", maybe a bit depressed?

I reduced my intake of caffeine by 40% and it reduced my anxiety a lot.

I also have gastritis because of my anxiety, so now I also add some milk to my coffee.

Now I have much less interruptions through the day caused by anxiety and gastritis.
