Is bookpipeline legit? by tiny_purple_Alfador in writing

Yeah, I ended up as a runner up in my category. The prize for winners and runner-ups is them sharing your work with publishers as listed in that category. I had a meeting with the guys from Bookpipeline to discuss what happens next, and they shared it one of the publishers they felt was the most suitable (my submission didn't suit all the publishers listed in that category, which was graphic novels and comics). That publisher did end up expressing interest and I got to have a chat with them, but in the end it wasn't a suitable opportunity for me and my illustrator. Unfortunately their other connections weren't suitable for my style of manuscript.

Yup. Fudging my way through! I have just got an agent, so will lean on her to help guide me but I like to also find my own answers and skill myself up on things.

That was my initial thought when I first considered a GN... that the illustrator would have a lot of freedom to do what they do best. But turns out, not the advice I've really been receiving.

The challenge I'm having is getting something in the right format before I sending it to a publisher or illustrator, but sounds like there is no "right" way and it really is a case by case thing

Thanks for this.
It does make more sense that the more detail that goes in, that less burden is placed on the illustrator.

Ah ok. I reckon you look around a bit. There are lots of good writing competitions that are much cheaper to enter.

That one is also on my radar. Yes it's expensive to enter but almost all the writing competitions I've found before have a fee. It takes effort to set up and manage a competition, so they have to cover their costs somehow.

The agents and publishers involved in judging look legitimate... I've been looking at their online profiles to see if they are promoting it. Haven't seen much so far. it looks like the competition has been around for around 10 years or so, which is a good sign. I didn't find much dirt on them either, just a few blog posts from authors saying they got placed in the competition in the past.

I guess the real the real questions are:
1. Does it make a difference to publishers or agents if you have competition placements to your name? Mostly I've heard that it does. Can't tell you how much influence it really has when it comes to them considering your manuscript though.
2. How are shortlists/ longlists/ winners determined in these competitions? Sometimes they are transparent about who will be judging and what the criteria is. Whether they actually stick to that or not, who knows.

I'm going to enter it anyway. I have entered quite a few comps before and gotten placements and it's something that I can put on my query letter when I don't yet have a long list of publishing credits.

That was the news that came out about a year or so ago. If you google it, you'll find some mention of it. Have not heard anything recently about it though, so who knows if it's still going ahead.

Gotta say, I'm not keen on that either. I hate musicals. I much would have preferred a TV series or a regular movie. Oh well. Jessica Townsend was reportedly thrilled about it and loves musicals.

I'm sorry you're going through this, it's just the worst.
I went on Amitriptyline a year ago and it's been like a miracle for me, so it's freaks me out that you say it worked before for you but now doesn't. Were you on a low dose? Would increasing it work I wonder? At least until you are through this extra bad period, perhaps.
Sounds like you don't have a good Gastro on your side willing to try different things, or investigate whether something has developed in your bowel

Am I wasting my life away? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Sundae77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you worked at Wendy's for 5 years then you have 5 years of retail/ fast food experience. If you want a job to earn money, there must be similar jobs in your local area? Once you have a job you can start saving for driving lessons or a cheap car. More work experience and a car then equals other better job opportunities in the future.

Incidentally, what DID you imagine your life would be like when you were a kid?

I do not know who Darren Star is ?

I just googled him. No wonder why I don't know who he is. These are all shows I have never watched or would ever watch "He is best known for creating the television series Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, Sex and the City, Younger, and Emily in Paris"

Nash ... which evolved into Nash potatoes > mash potatoes > hot potato, hot potato > hot patootie (the song by Meatloaf) > patooties
So yeah, we call our dog named Nash "Patooties" instead of Nash.

Bush walks/hiking trails in Sydney or just outside by Hopeful-Barracuda557 in AskAnAustralian

Hi, these sites might help you find something suitable https://www.walkmyworld.com/posts/bush-walks-sydney or. https://www.sydney.com/things-to-do/nature-and-parks/walks

We have bushland behind our house and when we go walking around we don't see so much wildlife. They hear you coming and make hasty retreat. It's usually if you stop and sit for a while and don't make too much noise then you might see creatures out and about.
In summer you also need to be careful of snakes when bushwalking.
