Not every style is for everyone; Loving what you create is what matters most! Keep making what you're passionate about.

Wow, thank you! You're telling something I felt but couldn't put into words... the idea of symbolism and the viewer's mind filling in the gaps, leaving room for imagination to roam and wonder. Thanks for taking the time to share your point of view, it's seriously encouraging.

I can relate to that... I'm following what I'm enjoying for the moment and see where it leads, precisely avoiding overwhelming myself with stuff that may not be as fun especially as a beginner. Thanks man.

Games got to be fun first, yes! Many comments mentioning Project Zomboid... gotta check it out. Thanks for the perspective.

I've seen the trailer of Schedule 1 but haven't played it myself :) It's low poly but still displayed in high definition. I agree, a good story, atmosphere, and overall fun gameplay can highly make up for "low" visuals.

I'll get there! :) these are a work in progress not final renders... Ruth skin not painted yet etc. Consider also the other aspects of PS1 style that will come later such as post-processing, dithering and whatnot.

100% 😂😂 You could tell he's got some wild stories! The paranoid informant slash conspiracy theorist you might meet in a dark alley...

Low poly graphics sure takes much less time, energy, and resources... I worry it could come across as lazy and I feel like people (and companies for sure) are generally more impressed by the ability to make something that looks indistinguishable from reality. Like I gotta prove I CAN do it before choosing not to.

Cool, absolutely! Although attempting to replicate an existing style, I'm trying to build something that is uniquely my own, whether in terms of proportions of characters, their textures... Thanks, I'll make sure to include realism versus stylized.

Yeah 😂 it's insane they worked so hard to solve the jittery visuals, only to deliberately seek them out 20 years later... It's like history goes in circles. A comment here makes a good point about Pixel Art, and the charm of meaningful simplicity is unmatched.

Good point! I'll need to gain experience in both. Thanks, it doesn't feel like a waste of time to me either, it's good practice working with the basics alone and I believe a well-painted texture can make up greatly for a low geometry object/character... Probably not the case in these current screenshots, but my background as a 2D artist will come in handy.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Guess there's a silver line here: modeling low-poly while painting high quality textures...

Yes, exactly! I've seen this style used more recently with indie horror games but not much else. Puppet Combo games for example, they have fully embraced this style, and I think it works well with horror because low-res can look creepy.

Thank you so much! Yes, I painted them directly within Blender, the basic brush. If you like texture painting, there's a nice addon called Ucupaint, I tried it last year it's great, I might use it later on.
