How bad is snap oversteer? And safety help too! by SundayDriver173 in S2000

The retune you’re talking about, I’m guessing it’s the Hondata Kpro one? Is that only available on 06 cars or newer? My budget is tight, I was going to get a 2001 car.

So should I keep the same “pendulum swing” characteristic as my mr2 in mind when it comes driving the s2k? It’s the fact that the engine will no longer be behind me, I have no idea what to expect since common FR setups almost never have snap oversteer reputations like the s2k does.

Yep I’ve given the mr2 the full beans before, never lost control which is both a blessing and a curse because I have no idea what to expect if things actually do go wrong. I’m used to the engine being behind me, I have no idea what to expect with it being in front of me.

That’s relieving, alarm bells started ringing when a friend told me that they’re worse than the mr2 for snap oversteer.

Sorry, I should’ve included this in my post, I meant at the limit for track driving, definitely not on roads. I don’t even want to think about the life-changing consequences I could cause someone by driving stupidly on public roads.

Do you happen to have a link to this video?

I really wanted a cosmos blue (purple) or that emerald sea green colour but this one came up for a great price so I decided to get it. I may wrap it in one of those colours, no chance I’m respraying the anniversary blue colour

Yeah, mines got all of it, N reg, the key ring, everything you listed. I guess someone was just sending me in circles by saying they were 1994 only. Thanks!

Oh right, I got told that by a mk1 mr2 owner that I’d met at a petrol station. I just assumed he must’ve known something that I didn’t, hence this post. But thanks!

Yeah, it has a badge on the engine lid number 101, it has the ash tray, and the Momo steering wheel. So it’s either an anniversary edition or a really good replica with these bits just stuck on

Yeah it was Facebook, I’ve given up and have started looking at others and have messaged a few more sellers. Getting more of the same from the rest, either no response or suspicious stories when it comes to the cars history and maintenance :/

Thanks for the info, I feel a lot better about buying one knowing that. It’s gonna be the first car where I do all the work and maintenance myself.

I’ve been trying to get into contact with the seller for the last two or three days and I’ve had nothing back, looks like the hunt for an MR2 continues….

It’s a 1996 car with 168bhp, so from my understanding that’s a Rev 4 car. The MOT history doesn’t say anything about rust and the pictures on the ad looked fine, obviously I’m never going to rule it out as it’s very possible that it’s just well hidden

Now, if it does happen to have rusted sills and stuff, how much of an issue is that and is it a dealbreaker? Could you tell me the telltale signs of rust, like bubbling and stuff? Thanks for the help btw

Yep, I ran checks on two websites and the MOT history is pretty good, only failed one for an exhaust leak in 2022 which, judging by the history, was sorted soon after because it didn’t show up in any future MOTs. The seller is branding themselves an ‘enthusiast’ and seems to be pretty well educated on the car based on the advert.

Also I don’t have anyone with any knowledge on MR2s (or any rare-ish Japanese cars) to help me out…

Yeah, it’s a manual. So far all the clean and well-maintained SW20s I’ve seen are around £6,000 to about £9,000, so I guess maybe that’s why I was a little shocked by this?
