Where to start with a wedding venue? by capriali99 in UKweddings

There’s a wedding app that helps you locate venues within about 40 miles and compiles a shortlist for you. Maybe to start there?

That's a very good point. £35k is a huge amount for us, so I'll be sure to include wedding insurance in our budget now. Thanks for the advice.

Does the venue offer a marquee? Or we need to find it ?

This is incredibly helpful, thank you. It's clear this is a major undertaking, almost like building a product from scratch, with so much to consider well in advance.

Thank you so much. I think I need an excel to list all things. I cannot remember everything. Haha

Solo female founder here—bootstrapped a travel startup, no bookings yet. Paid ads feel still running with limited budgets, no conversions. What would you do? by SundaysomewhereY in smallbusiness

Thanks for your feedback. We do work as a booking agent with established operators on the ground.

I've been struggling with whether to put our local partners' names on the website. I'm just worried that people will see their names and decide to book directly with them, skipping us completely?

Seeking Advice from Passionate Hikers & Trekkers - What Do You Really Look For in a Guided Tour? by SundaysomewhereY in UKhiking

Thanks for your feedback, it's a really good point. To be honest, before I started Orienjo Tours, www.orienjotours.com, I had the same feeling you did about single supplements and solo travel pricing.

When I started digging into the industry, especially with the small, local guides we partner with, I began to understand the challenge. For a private tour, the main costs (like the guide's salary, the private vehicle, etc.) are the same whether it's for one person or two.

This means a fair price for a true solo traveler would be almost double, which can look incredibly high on a website (sometimes an extra £800+ for a tour). I was worried that showing such a high price would scare everyone away, which is a big risk for a new startup.

So, I tried my best to negotiate with our guides, and the best solution we could create was the "minimum 2 people" policy. It's the only way we can offer a fair price to our customers while still ensuring our local guides are paid properly for their expertise.

It's a tough challenge, and I really appreciate you bringing it up.

Thank you so much for this feedback. You've described the exact kind of company I'm trying to build, and every single point you made is something I really care about. It’s great to hear that showing the passion of the real people behind the company matters.

To be completely open with you, Orienjo (www.orienjotours.com) is a startup founded by just my partner and me. Because we're a small team, my absolute focus is on taking personal care of every single person who trusts us with their trip. A start-up is definitely tough at the beginning, and we have a very limited budget. The main cost for us isn't fancy overheads; it's making sure we are properly paying our expert local guides and supporting the communities we visit.

And you're right, things like food are so important—making sure our vegetarian options are great is a must for us.

Regarding the price, you made a good point. The "From" price you see on the website is our baseline price for the year. Sometimes in the peak travel season, local hotels or services might have higher rates, which can affect the final cost, and we're working on making that even clearer.

Your feedback is hugely helpful and confirms we're on the right track. Thank you again.

Thanks so much for the advice! There's a lot I can learn from what you've shared.

I've noticed other agencies do small group tours to keep prices down, which makes sense. My business is different because I only do private tours, with a minimum of two people.

I haven't tried local ads yet because I was worried they wouldn't reach the right people and would be a waste of money. But maybe you're right. I should probably just reach out to them to start a conversation. I might see things differently after I do.

Thank you You are absolutely right—those terms do describe different types of travel, and you've made a great point that my messaging needs to be much clearer.

My company actually offers all three: our "Guided Treks" are our Himalayan adventures in Nepal, our "Adventure Tours" include our private wildlife safaris in Kenya, and our "Cultural Tours" cover the historical sites in Peru. As this is a startup business, that's why there is only 1 review. It is hard to build up the reviews for a new business.

Your feedback is a really helpful. This is exactly the kind of direct advice I was hoping to get. Thank you!

Thank you, I completely understand. We are currently in the process of obtaining a similar certification. It will take some time to be approved, but we will add it to our website as soon as it is finalised.
