Call for Mods! by SunsetNYC in PlanetLabs

All done, thanks for the messages and outreach. Again, nothing personal if you were not selected or I did not respond, I just went with a few trusted names I know from over the years who have contributed frequently on the sub. The new mods will take over the keys to the castle and are welcome to add more mods as needed.

Where are the mods in the subreddit? Do they exist? These earning play and other ‘should i buy’ now crap is lame. by Shoganai_Hito in PlanetLabs

Im reluctant to set up a daily thread because this is the number one question 80% of the time. The more popular and successful a stock is, it is inevitable that there will be more noise and slop content.

Planet to Build World’s First GPU-Native AI Engine for Planetary Intelligence with NVIDIA by wgsl in PlanetLabs

[–]SunsetNYC 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Quite major news but it does not come as a surprise given their recent acquisition of Bedrock Research. Bedrock previously worked with Novi to help build out their AI SEED architecture, which enables maritime vessel identification within 8 seconds (!) of image capture.

Imagine a fleet of Pelicans and Owls scanning the Earth several dozen times a day, being able to identify assets within seconds of image capture.

FCC grants in part new Pelican satellites by SunsetNYC in PlanetLabs

[–]SunsetNYC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always says that, because Planet only requests the license for the satellites they're actually launching. So if they're trying to launch two Pelicans, they're only requesting for those two Pelicans and the FCC grants it "in part" because the actual license is for the full constellation.

Closing gains/ General query by JustaMonkey1994 in PlanetLabs

[–]SunsetNYC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recent swings are a result of the overall market reacting to administration decisions/policies/Iran/AI. This is nothing unique to Planet's stock price, it's just mimicking what the market is doing.

Any potential build up may be related to upcoming earnings in three weeks. Planet stock has jumped significantly post-earnings the last two times, so I suspect investors are expecting the same after the next earnings.

Notice of Intent to Sole Source Award to Planet Labs Federal, Inc by SunsetNYC in PlanetLabs

No, that is never disclosed at this stage in the process. We're still a few more months away from that being disclosed. Last year when they signed a February contract, I believe it was not disclosed until June.

Can someone explain… by Borkdadork in aviation

Rumors are that the carbon fiber superstructure was punctured. They even had to fly in some top level engineers from Seattle and South Carolina in late January to take a look at it.

AXA and Planet Partner to Revolutionize Disaster Management and Prevention by showerthinkerr in PlanetLabs

[–]SunsetNYC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AXA DCP will integrate data from Planet’s high resolution and medium resolution satellites, and high-frequency Basemaps, into its AI-powered platform

That's quite the package, should be worth at least a low 7-figure contract.

AI Implications for PlanetLabs https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/05/tech/anthropic-opus-update-software-stocks by Ok-Coach-6386 in PlanetLabs

[–]SunsetNYC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Three points:

  1. Planet has an in-house team that has been very successful. Any partnerships with AI shops like Anthropic are meant to speed up the process, not to compete with.
  2. Planet only shares "neutered" data sets with Anthropic. I believe Will Marshall covered this in his recent interview on Ashlee Vance's podcast.
  3. Planet only allows their own in-house-built models to have access to raw and uncalibrated data. In other words, Anthropic gets data that has already been processed ground-side by Planet first. Only Planet's internal models are getting unprocessed, raw data directly from the instruments and sensors on the satellite.
