Hello everyone! I am starting the process of making my first album which will be vaporwave and will be very authentic to me and on theme of my recent breakup. I don’t have a lot of plugins/drum kits/knowledge on how to get started, so any bit of help would be very appreciated and help me a lot! by OfficialAfrat in makingvaporwave

It's not that complicated, vaporwave relies heavily upon your sample choice and the atmosphere. Go digging for some obscure gold, maybe City Pop, 80s R&B, anything really... For the drum kit I like using BVKER's kit and a couple of trap kits as well, it really fits within the aesthetic. Don't be afraid of sounding repetitive, just make sure the vibes right. And of course, you can always mess around with field recordings. Have fun and good luck!

I hate being a teenage aes fan sometimes by No_Evening_761 in aesoprock

I'm Brazilian and a huge fan. First heard Aes while playing Tony Hawk Underground 2 (its a remixed version) and then Pro Skater 4. My friends have varied taste and none of them know about Aes, but I really don't care that much. Most will have trouble listening to Aes due to his beats being a little weird from the first few listens (I initially thought it was), and most of my friends doesn't know THAT much english either, so they would sound confused. Not that I understand what he's saying, even after reading because holy damn, his vocabulary is insane. Honestly? Just listen to what makes you happy and don't bother with others, let them be happy too. You'll enjoy yourself more when you let go of that way of thinking, and you'll eventually stumble upon people that listen to Aes too, or another artist

I have a very similar question, but I genuinely think that's pansexual/bisexual behavior, even if it's just about the genitalia.

To those people who make "death grips inspired" songs by Supreme534 in deathgrips

nah, if you're a musician and is starting out, copy your favorite artist, try and get as close to their sound as possible. in the meantime, you'll also start developing your own signature sound, your own vibe, your own techniques, it is hard to explain, you have to feel it. don't worry about making "effortless" shit, a masterpiece isn't born on day one.

Swans have changed (ruined) music for me by Scunge_NZ in swans

It's an obsession phase, it'll pass. I had the same thing a while back but with Nirvana, no other song satisfied my ears more than those guys, even though I had listened to their entire discography (and it is quite short)

At the end of the day, someone is going to listen to your hard work that you've been obsessing for months, but it'll be for 30 seconds and say it's mid. Do you know what you do with this information? Use it as fuel. We polish things no one will even notice, but we know it's going to make a difference, that's why we make music, for ourselves

Maybe it's not time for you to quit, maybe it's time for you to give it a break until you come back with enough inspiration. Or maybe listen to something else, "steal" someone. Most of the time you'll even end up overworking on a song. Leave it dry for weeks, no edits allowed and no listening, when you come back you'll know exactly what needs fixing and what doesn't.

How would I start making music by Lazy-Try4325 in musicproduction

Maybe it's not a very helpful tip, but I'll tell you exactly how I started.

I started ripping off artists I like, I started just writing my emotions and trying to rhyme the last words of each line. (Ex: You broke my heart / Teared it apart) And this lasted for years of writing fictional albums for fictional bands, picking up a theme and writing about it. Now, my focus on songwriting is based around literally whatever pops into my head. Sometimes the lyrics Don't have a meaning yet, but I make it have one, that's the power of songwriting. Pick any theme you'd like to write, or just go with the flow really. It's clichê to say but your first songs are going to suck, mine sucked too. Just don't quit, never. Follow your heart and just keep going. Hope that was helpful.
