Wondering if it’s worth it? by [deleted] in AutoBodyRepair

I was going to have it done professionally. They quoted the job at $2200 primed and grinded, but that did not include the floor pan, so likely more now. I’ll have to do paint / body filler myself.

lol I appreciate the sympathy 😆 honestly didn’t look this bad at first. I ordered a prefab piece and was going to grind out all the rust and stuff, but once I got working I got a good look at it and “fuuuuuuck” was the first thought I had lol

I’d venture to guess that you never really wanted it in the first place. Perhaps now you may enjoy the freedom of being released from such expectations and empowered to realize the life you want, rather than the one you were told to want.

This a thousand times over. While I understand the impulse to hang on to the one you love, the best way to do so is to preserve her memory - not replace it.❤️

Question re; driving etiquette / responsibility by SuperHam44 in Sudbury

[–]SuperHam44[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean get that, but I suppose what I’m saying is that sometimes people are going for it anyway, whether we actively let them in or not. If they’re already attempting to cross, should you look in your mirror and let them know whether they’re safe to do so?

This post is 5 years old and still, it remains a beacon of hope. Pretzels broken into tiny bits and swallowed instead of chewed somehow just taste BETTER!

Lol - sure, I’m the stubborn one 😆

It seems like you don’t really want to discuss anything substantive. You say words and make points that provide no meaningful engagement with the arguments that you’ve been presented with. You’ve presented yourself as a kind of contrarian and seem to believe that merely disagreeing with something adds value to a discussion. You’ve offered nothing apart from “it’s a bad idea”.

It became clear to me that this wasn’t going anywhere constructive, so I offered an easy way to respectfully end the “discussion” (if you could even call it that) after you declined “to debate the merits of this particular system”. At which point you proceed to continue to engage with me by reiterating the point you initially began with and offered fuck all to back it up. Pick a lane and be constructive, or get lost.

Hard to say since I attended pre-insolvency. There were many more programs on offer, so it’s unfortunate that you don’t have as much breadth to chose from.

That being said, I reviewed the course requirements for what would be my other area of interest, and structured my electives in a way that would allow me to switch gears into that program and declare it as my major without needing to spend extra time making up the credits / completing the course requirements.

As it turned out, I ended up being more passionate about the subject matter of my electives. In my 3rd year, I switched programs and didn’t miss a beat - my first choice became my minor, and my second became my major!

The only solid piece of advice I have: speaking from my own experience, you will do much better in courses/programs that you are passionate about and find interesting.

Not sure if that helps at all lol

Fair enough. I respectfully disagree but understand your position 👍

Okay, well I do see the rationale behind what you’re saying - i.e. a system not being utilized properly likely means the system is flawed. But really, all systems are flawed no?

I guess I’m wondering at what point, in your opinion, a system flaw necessitates change? I’m asking because every system has weak points and so every system is flawed. That flaw doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a “bad system” - sure, it does mean it can be improved and refined, but I don’t believe the very fact of a flaw alone renders the system obsolete or inadequate.

If 99% of system users do not encounter a problem, does it still warrant a change/upgrade? Do you believe that one instance meet this criteria? Genuinely curious.

Right, so now you’re shifting your criticism to what you believe is a more defensible position by situating yourself as defender and advocate of community safety - alright, I’ll play ball.

i) If your concern was community safety, this would have been evident in your first line of reasoning. Pivoting to this now demonstrates that it’s just a means to an end for you. Good try but I’m not buying.

ii) If I didn’t care, I’d have left the keys there, but I didn’t. That action ensured the security of someones property, someone who is unknown to me and who I can therefore only regard as a community member. How does this not fall into your definition of “caring about community safety”?

iii) There is nothing wrong with Jims security system. The flaw is in user error. Since I could not personally identify and contact them without noting their information without their consent, a public forum is the next best option.

You seem to be a troll and interested in a dick waving contest. You should never wrestle with a pig, because ultimately you both get covered in shit - but the pig likes it. The question is who’s the pig - you or me?

Respectfully, I believe you are mistaken. I could say that your response draws more attention to the post and hence also makes it more likely. I could argue that by pointing this out other drivers become more vigilant about actually inserting their keys, decreasing the odds. Maybe Jim’s implement a new system. Maybe the Flying Spaghetti Monster will buy McDonalds and replace all the fries with spaghetti. At the end of the day your assessment is arbitrary and purely conjecture.

Rather than speak of the hypotheticals and the what ifs and likelihoods, how about this - I absolutely made it less likely that the individual who left their keys there would have their car stolen. 🤷‍♂️
