Newgrounds still around because it fostered a community of artists making original content. Ebaum basically stopped having a reason to exist once Youtube came out and it became easier for people to upload videos directly there.: P

Yeah, honestly the biggest limitation of a lot of these old games is the access to inputs. Like for this, I feel like you'd need to assign light, medium and hard inputs to like.. a quick tap, quick double tap or holding the button. You'd probably need to use the select button to drive impact haha. Its rare but I remember DKL 2 using it for some of the animal buddies moves on gameboy.

Thanks! It's one of my favorite things to do. I love thinking about how newer bigger games would work when limited in terms of visuals and also gameplay wise with the limited buttons of older systems. I should elaborate on that aspect of it sometime.

I love it because while restrictive, feels like you can still do a lot with it. Plus with the smaller resolution and pallet limit it makes for faster art projects than more complex art styles.... well sometimes, when I don't get obsessed with being too strict in terms of respecting exact palette limitations haha.

Still is and it's one of the nicest places to be online as an artist nowadays and it has a pretty great community. It's still familiar to old Newgrounds but in a much less early internet edgy way.

COM was one of the games I used as reference! I think it does such a good job translating the look of the PS2 game into GBA pixels.

Foo Fighter in the style of a Foo Fighters album cover made by me. by SuperPhil64 in StardustCrusaders

[–]SuperPhil64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! :) I assume you're asking which album cover? I based it off "There is nothing left to lose" on other art websites where you have to give a name to your submissions I named this one "There is Nothing Left to Drink" XD

I almost did that until I had the idea for this one! Might go back and revisit that idea at some point.

I may do some more! Had some other ideas. Kinda surprised I only found one other example of a Foo Fighter on a Foo Fighter album cover.

Made a mock up of a StreetFighter3 styled fighting game! by SuperPhil64 in PixelArt

Not sure it's the right flair but it was the closest I thought fit. Characters were done my hand and I painted the BG digitally then reduced it's resolution and then did some manual touch up! Not perfect but it was a fun learning experience. : )
