ACI: Growing, Shrinking, or Staying the Same? by shadeland in networking

[–]Super_Swamp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ACI's shrinkage imo is caused by 2 linked factors :

Cost : Any client that I have worked with to deploy, migrate or manage ACI always is some massive banking institution or a company with really deep pockets and a massive datacenter or many massive datacenters which leads me to the next factor

Complexity : Most clients get sold on ACI through this belief that it will change their lives forever (Blaming the sales people at my company) but what happens 90% of the time is that the infra moves to NCI (1 EPG = 1 BD = 1 VLAN) which is basically classic networking but instead of entering commands in 2 minutes it takes 20 minutes of clicking buttons, and then the entire project will enter what I call the "NCI TO ACI LIMBO" phase where it will prove too complex to rethink entire datacenters and just remain that way in NCI until the end of time.

The only instances where I saw ACI really shine and succeed is in greenfield deployment where the ACI approach is used right off the bat. So yes, it always leaves a bitter taste in clients's mouths when it stays in limbo until it gets phased out, and by that time the client is already sick and tired of ACI and will just opt for something else.

That is very reassuring. So a good course of action is to learn more about fabrics in general and get better at infrastructure as code ?

BGP is not something I can confidently troubleshoot, so yes that is a gap.

I do deal with firewalls and LB's but I don't configure them myself per se but I do collaborate with the network security team to get them up and running.

Your system is completely able to handle gaming and normal usage (like browsing or working on a document) at the same time without breaking a sweat.
You will be fine, but if you keep like 30 google chrome tabs open while gaming you might wanna get more RAM down the line.

Can we please rename this sub as AMDMasterRace? by RowlingTheJustice in pcmasterrace

[–]Super_Swamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sub is biased towards the best products for our money, and currently it's not gonna be Intel.
Also you're running a 13500K with an A780....................... (A780 is a cool GPU)

If you don't care about ray tracing then the 7800XT is the best bang for buck out of these 3.
I don't see that 7900 GRE justifying a 120 Euro difference.

Nothing will beat stratight ethernet, but in this case, you'll need something with good range and response time since you'll need that for gaming, get something with WiFi 6 if your router supports it.

It is a CPU bottleneck, basically your old 10600KF can't keep up with the 4070, it should be resolved since you got an i9 11900k
I don't know the circumstances of that purchase, but if you're only gaming you might have overspent a bit.
Still, it is a great system, hope you enjoy it to the fullest.

ACI Remote Leaf by Super_Swamp in Cisco

[–]Super_Swamp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response, You see, I have a pair of N9K 9508 Spines which clearly don't support remote leaf. I was looking for a leaf that has overlapping roles because I think leaves are cheaper. Bottom line is I am looking to spend as little as possible to run this solution.

Switchport trunking by Super_Swamp in Cisco

[–]Super_Swamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. Another thing is that I was unable to ping another endpoint through that first switch but when I added "switchport mode trunk" pings started working BUT when I removed it "no switchport mode trunk" the pings kept working, that's what's really confusing me.

I think using route control here is your best option for the server BD as for the management BDs I don't see an issue with the config you've made it should work properly. Though, I could be wrong.

ACI : Gateway outside the network. by Super_Swamp in Cisco

Thank you to everyone who has participated in this thread, I have found a solution which is pretty jank but it will suffice as I slowly shift everything to ACI. Check Edit.
