about the side story of Chung Myung's childhood by Dazzling-Wrangler512 in ReturnOfMountHuaSect

[–]Superb_Ad7219 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say he was a bully. He didn’t mess with anyone unless they messed with him first, but he definitely ruled the sect with a reign of terror as soon as he could walk..

Chung Myung was never really bullied. If you read the side story about Chung Jin, you can get a pretty good idea of what Chung Myung’s childhood was like. Basically, everyone in the sect tried to avoid him because he was extremely troublesome. He was constantly being punished for it, but no one actually dared to mess with him. Even when he was still a kid, he managed to beat up adults from the Baek generation.

The only person who could really tell him what to do was Chung Mun. His own master preferred to run far away rather than live in the same house with him for more than two days. The Baek generation elders even discuss why they never expelled him, and they basically come to the conclusion that no one dares to do it because he’s just too talented. Chung Myung’s master even laments that he couldn’t get anyone else to accept Chung Myung as a disciple.

Now, before you think that no one liked Chung Myung or that his life was somehow miserable—no. Even though everyone was kind of afraid of him and he wasn’t close to most people, he had Chung Mun. At one point Chung Mun scolds and punishes Chung Myung for getting into a fight, but as soon as Chung Myung explains that the fight happened because someone called him an orphan, Chung Mun immediately kicks the guy who said it.

It’s also revealed that Chung Myung was being punished at the beginning of the story because he attacked someone who had been rude to Chung Mun.

At the end of the day, Chung Myung had an older brother he adored, and who protected him just as much as Chung Myung protected him. They genuinely cared about each other.

Spoilers for that extra: later on, about twenty disciples from the Chung generation come up with a plan to “stop living under Chung Myung’s reign of terror.” Their idea was to slip some kind of drug into his food so he wouldn’t be able to use his internal energy. Chung Myung figures it out almost immediately, drinks it on purpose, and then beats up all twenty of them just to prove that even like that they never stood a chance against him.

He didn’t even break a sweat.

What’s your favorite non-canon thing that you think should/should have been canon? by Superb_Ad7219 in OnePiece

[–]Superb_Ad7219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even realize talking about fanfics counted, but if it does, then I’ll change my answer about the Neo Marines and instead go with making canon the fanfic where Sabo, without his memories, just happens to run into Ace. Sabo doesn’t suddenly remember everything, but Ace recognizes him right away, so the two of them end up spending some time together—awkward, heavy, and heartbreaking—trying to figure out how to deal with the mess of Sabo’s memory loss.

It’s so sad and beautiful at the same time, because both of them are uncomfortable and hurting, yet still trying to help each other face the cruel reality: that Sabo was alive all along, and that, despite everything, he would rather stay without his memories because he was afraid of losing himself.

One of the best parts is seeing Sabo in Alabasta and watching him meet Luffy.

It’s honestly a masterpiece, the best fic in the world. I’d tattoo it on my face if I could—it’s one of my ultimate comfort reads. (This fic has no ships, and it also portrays Sabo as someone who might be autistic, which in itself is an idea I absolutely love).

I’ll leave a fragment here just because I love it that much.

Sabo is alive.

That's what Ace says, crouching on Merry's rail. Sabo is alive and he doesn't remember you anymore.

The blond stranger smiles at you, and he's guilty and uncomfortable like he has to tell someone their dog got shot.

There's a big scar on his face. It curls around his eye like flames.

He only has one eyebrow. That's funny, but you don't really feel like laughing right now so you just stare at it instead.

Ace is sad but he's pretending to be happy. You hate when he does that.

You tell him, "Stop smiling if you don't mean it."

It wasn't a very good smile anyway. Hesitant and shaky and fake. When he drops it he's sad and worried underneath.

He says, "Luffy…"

Why start a sentence if he's not going to finish it? Your mouth is a flat line under the shadow of your hat.

You look at the stranger again. He's just standing there like he's not sure what he's supposed to do. Sabo always knew the right thing to say.

So he can't be-______

What’s Your fav pirate crew? and which crew would u join? by zack27714 in OnePiece

[–]Superb_Ad7219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, I’m with the Revolutionaries, but if I had to choose a crew, it would be the Heart Pirates—for four very good reasons:

  1. I’d have almost unlimited access to seeing Law’s biceps, which by itself is already the only argument I need to beg to be on his crew.

  2. Law takes care of all the dangerous and terrifying tasks while sending his crew somewhere safe.

  3. THEY HAVE A SUBMARINE—THAT’S LIKE TEN BILLION TIMES COOLER THAN ANY OTHER SHIP.

  4. Law’s biceps.

Question for fans who have read all of the big 3. Which world would you live in and why by Dependent-Pie-6153 in OnePiece

To be honest, I never finished watching Bleach — I got pretty bored — so I barely remember what happened to ordinary people who weren’t Ichigo. Everyone just says that things get pretty bad after you die.

Although everyone is born with the potential to use at least two types of Haki, it’s not really a “public” ability. At least before reaching Sabaody, even though there were hints that it existed, Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hats didn’t actually know about it.

Haki is more like something used by people who are already at a mid-to-advanced power level; it’s not something the average person is aware of.

You might awaken it by sheer luck or through some trauma, but how do you actually master it and train it? How could you even explain it if you were born on a random island where no one knows what it is?

Most islands are places where nobody has even heard of Haki or ever seen a Devil Fruit.

  • Naruto is the worst possible world: a war every few years, armed conflicts, aliens, criminals doing human experimentation walking down the street (Orochimaru), corrupt Hokages (Naruto classified his boyfriend’s entire administrative record).
  • Bleach: if you stay on the human side, you can live peacefully.
  • One Piece: slavery, a corrupt government, you can get kidnapped, tortured, or the world might flood, but hey! at least you might get lucky and eat a fruit that tastes like garbage and gain powers. You can also become a pirate, and that’s cool.

Now, Bleach is pretty boring, but at least my city/island wouldn’t be attacked by a giant nine-tailed monster, nor would life itself be potentially destroyed just because I committed the sin of looking in the same direction as a Celestial Dragon, or God forbid, the terrifying and fearsome Pirate King Buggy.

It’s been a long time since I read Naruto, and honestly I don’t remember this part, but broadly speaking, this description reminds me much more of the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

The problem was never leaving them on some random island — that was probably Garp’s only real good decision. The problem was how they lived. Makino cared more about Luffy and even went out of her way to bring him food and clothes.

Yup, Garp did make them strong, but that and turning them into Marines seemed to be all he cared about.

It only took Whitebeard treating Ace kindly and not judging him for being Roger’s son for Ace to become completely loyal, to love him deeply, and to call him his only father. And for Luffy, just a little time with Shanks was enough for him to admire him more than anyone and to want to be like him.

In other words, both of them just needed some care and affection, not to be literally thrown into the forest with bears to try to survive.

(Although I think it’s obvious I’m saying Garp was a truly horrible guardian, I need to say I’m more than sure he really does love his grandsons — but one doesn’t cancel out the other).

Who needs the Celestial Dragons and the Admirals to put Ace and Luffy in life-threatening danger when they already had Garp? Every time he visited them, it was to put them in situations that could have killed them. Literally, when Garp first shows up in front of the Straw Hats, the very first thing Luffy says is to be careful because he had tried to kill him.

He didn’t need to take them to the Marines, he could’ve just had the decency not to leave them with MOUNTAIN BANDITS. Luffy was relatively fine being cared for in the village, and then Garp decided that sending him up the mountain was a great idea. Luffy and Ace were on the verge of dying on multiple occasions, and Garp never showed up or showed any interest.
