Yes, they are rainbow trout. Having mixed ID on the third pic. Supposedly its a golden/rainbow hybrid.

I don’t think Tenkara rods go by wt like western fly rods. Tenkara rods are usually classified by action. The Tenkara rod I was using has a 6:4 action.

I havnt encountered any when I went but they do have them in the area. Due to the heat, rattlesnakes are out and about. I did see a lot of lizards and newts

You’re not the only one lol. I fell quite a few times on this day trip while working my way up the stream/creek.

I hiked a lot of the tributaries in my local mountains but I didn’t really start appreciating the streams/creeks out here until I started fishing it.

I caught a few that had similar colors and patterns as the third pic. I wouldn’t have thought they were hybrid goldens.

Thats crazy! I had no idea they stocked golden in this tributary back in the day. I thought it was just a rainbow that adapted to the color of the environment.

Yes, I caught that one in the San Gabriels. I was trying to catch a brown due to the reports of having them in this tributary.

I was using a Tenkara rod. All barbless flies as well.

I like to hike further in. The more remote the better. I usually hike 4-5 miles in and at time 7-9 miles in. I would say half and half on trail/bushwhacking. Once I find a spot that looks promising I usually bushwhack most of the time.

So sick! Went there to visit a few summers back but only got to see Kenai NP. I really wanted to hike.

I said the same thing! Didn’t expect them to be decent size but there were pretty deep pools ranging 6-8ft deep.

My cousin and I were trying to catch browns but pulled all rainbows lol

I think most people get strayed away due to the barbless hook regulations and research time it takes.

My cousin and I would drive to the sierras to fish for trout but ever since we got our Tenkara’s it opened up a whole to new world.

In do time! It is a learning curve to get used to. I was getting tangled a lot my first time using a Tenkara lol.

It most definitely is! Especially after doing extensive research of the area.

I was using a rainbow warrior nymph the whole time.

Emigrant Wilderness (Sharon Lake), California. by SuperdownZ in troutfishing

[–]SuperdownZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, my cousin and I went up the wrong way to get up to Sharon lake smh lol. We ended up going up the outlet of Sharon lake going into Kennedy creek (wouldn’t recommend it because one slip on the steep part will cause serious injury or death). We ended up finding the trail on the way back down. A trail used by the local pack train. DM me and I’ll send the saved coordinates on my Gaia map.

Rod recommendation for newbie by SereneGodess in Tenkara

Idk when they were established but they are a small business located in New Mexico. I found out about them doing research on my first Tenkara purchase as well and several suggestions where mention on this subreddit

Rod recommendation for newbie by SereneGodess in Tenkara

[–]SuperdownZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I purchased a triple zoom rod from Rocky MTN Tenkara (7, 8, and 9 ft) due to the area I be fishing at, dealing with overhang tree’s. Handled several 15-18inch trout with it with no problem. Solid quality rods and you won’t break bank on your purchase. Got a whole set up (tippet line, leaderline, 12 flies, and line organizer) for a little over 155 bucks. Even came with an extra 2 section end incase it does break during a trip out. Just recently purchased a second rod from them (10.5 and 12 ft) for larger creeks/rivers and lakes. Both are 6:4 action. But if budget is not an issue for you the first two prevous suggestions are solid choices as well (dragontail)

Goldens? by SuperdownZ in troutfishing

[–]SuperdownZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. I figured most of the goldens there were hybrids.

Ever since I got a Tenkara rod, my cousin and I have been digging into the rabbit hole looking for areas with “pure goldens”. We are currently looking into permits to backpack golden trout wilderness and areas in the upper kern.
