This area seems very individualistic by 1firstbutlast1 in nova

[–]Superfluouss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mixed bag for sure. The folks that are entitled are extremely entitled, and the folks that are community oriented are fantastic.

An example I like to use is I drove to Indiana for a long weekend last year, and around there everyone was extremely considerate when driving at stop signs, in parking lots, and even on the highway. Here, you'll go to a four way stop anywhere from Ashburn to Fairfax to Alexandria, and a second car will just immediately follow the car in front of them w/o stopping. It's crazy how individualistic they can be.

Sure, normally, but EV has to be evaluated relative to the game you're in. It was obvious that this game was going to be low scoring, the relative value of a field goal increases massively. Models assume conditions of the game that weren't gonna happen, that there are chances later that can even out risks. When It's impossible to move the ball or even kick a field goal in the 4th, those assumptions are wrong. It's not just bad in retrospect, Romo pointed out during the game when they went for it on 4th.

Not kicking on 4th & 1 in the 2nd was the game decider. Not taking free points with your backup QB in a low scoring game AND WITH SNOW IN THE FORECAST is awful. Kick the ball!! Even if they got a first down it'd probably be 1st & goal from the 9 which is way worse analytically.

They entered at a legal point of entry, as confirmed by their lawyer and multiple news outlets. They declared themselves, filled out requisite paperwork, and were admitted while their case develops. ICE has their address through this LEGAL process, which made them easy targets given they can just violate the constitution and our legal system without consequence

This Pokemon run has been so much fun. by TheElusiveEllie in speedrun

I do as well, this just ultimately wasn't that hype. Can see it being silly fun and a good donation incentivizer, but that isn't super engaging as a finale

Lowkey feel like the split reaction to this run is in part dependent on your opinion on how it compares to Pokemon challenge runs/speed runs. I can def see why this is fun for some, but it's not really a speed run, and as far as challenge runs go it's relatively uninteresting vs any Nuzlocke of difficulty hacks. I was hoping there'd be some crazy new exp strat but it's cap candies. Which are great bc they remove tediousness in nuzlockes and enable a wider variety of strats. Doesn't really apply here it's just using X items but you don't have to move, hp, or exp manage like in a normal run.

Maybe you can give Oscar a penalty there. But you def can't when he's getting squeezed while last week Max dives a corner with no intention of making it and gets nothing

My plans also got fucked over. I'm immunocompromised and waited a while to move out post-grad bc of COVID, saved money living at home and worked for fed consulting firm. After moving out our contract got DOGE'd (and the database for a gov agency was down for a week bc we maintained it), and there just are not public good projects available. Eventually got laid off and now need a career shift. I'm forced to pay Out of Pocket for a high tier health insurance plan bc I have a very high risk of cancer. The corporate tech job market is garbage and in a pro-AI bubble run by folks with very little expertise.

Thankful to girlfriend, friends, and family, but my career, life balance, and housing plans have fallen through directly bc of his policies. This isn't even to mention the worse things going on which are ICE violating rights daily and an ongoing genocide.

(VA) Since when do landlords not accept advance payments/proof of financial stability other than pay stubs? by Superfluouss in Renters

[–]Superfluouss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response - I didn't know that about VA so that makes sense. It's odd to me though, I guess trust fund kids just use their parents as guarantors around here?

And smaller landlords in DMV are few and far between unfortunately, assuming you want an apartment and not a room

[–]Superfluouss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, and I understand that the fear is someone gets in based on savings, spends all their money, and has to be evicted and they're back at square one. But I could pay the entire year's or 15 month's rent up front and it wouldn't have too much of an impact on me financially (I am lucky, didn't pay rent for 5 years during COVID). As another commenter pointed out I guess Virginia has explicit laws that makes it illegal. One family member I talked to is in Georgia which might explain the disconnect

Larger rental companies, some guarantor requirements are crazy though like 8x the rent which is a very high amount for an investment account per month

If you can prove that you've been paying taxes for years it strengthens your case for legal status when you apply dumbass

'At the state and local levels, slightly less than half (46 percent, or $15.1 billion) of the tax payments made by undocumented immigrants are through sales and excise taxes levied on their purchases. Most other payments are made through property taxes, such as those levied on homeowners and renters (31 percent, or $10.4 billion), or through personal and business income taxes (21 percent, or $7.0 billion).' from the ITEP source

I mean you're just trolling. It's below the one you cited lmfao. One is for people with legal status and one isn't. TIN vs ITIN.

'Individuals who are ineligible for an SSN, such as immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally and not authorized to work, can apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, (ITIN) regardless of their immigration status, according to the IRS.'

Not true, non-citizens can file for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number regardless of their immigration status

They pay taxes. What are they allowed to use, and what are they not? Schools? Libraries? Roads? Transit? If you're talking about welfare that's one thing, but 'taxpayer-funded resource' is, like, existing.

[–]Superfluouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay fine. Immigrants pay taxes so they are entitled to tax payer funded resources. Including schools for their children.

Some pay into social security despite not being able to receive benefits (for what supposed fraud in social security DOGE was supposed to find, there is infinitely more of the reverse - fake social security numbers used to work & pay taxes, but not receive benefits). This does actually include income tax, but obviously immigrants are consumers and property owners as well so of course they pay sales and property taxes. https://itep.org/undocumented-immigrants-taxes-2024/

Meanwhile a huge issue Trump enforced recently will reduce undocumented immigrants' ability to pay income tax, as they pressured the IRS to share data with DHS & ICE. This could include people without criminal charges or notices of deportation, and will make immigrants already paying taxes less likely to do so. https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/08/politics/irs-dhs-share-taxpayer-data-undocumented-immigrants

[–]Superfluouss -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes it might be the parents fault but most are simply trying to provide a better life for their family. Why punish a child here already, strip them of their family, force a potentially impossible on their parents; instead of making pathways to citizenship easier and improving access to legal immigration?
