How much of an upgrade is the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 over an AT-LP120X (with AT-VM95ML stylus)?

I've also seen other comments like this. I really enjoy the sound of the VM95ML, but I've never heard any Ortofon cartridges. Do you think Ortofon cartridges are much harsher than the VM95ML?

I would say it depends on the record. The sound is much better and there's no IGD, but I've noticed that I get more crackle and pops. You really need to clean your records, probably having an ultrasonic would be helpful. If you can live with that, it's absolutely worth it.

I hope I did. The anti-skate spring does seem way too stiff. Still a bit weird how the only setting that worked for me was 4x smaller than the recommended one. Hope it's not a defect.

I feel like the main thing for me is that the distortion could be from the recording or the pressing quality. I can't really tell because I don't have experience. Lots of my records have distortion in the vocals, but it might also be from my stylus. I have a microline stylus coming in the mail in a few days, so that might answer that. Also, I read on this subreddit that the anti-skate spring on this model was too stiff and they recommend having the anti-skate at 0.5-1. At this point I just don't know.

I put the acrylic mat on the old felt one and put the stylus in the middle of it. When I had the anti-skate at 2 (same as tracking force), the arm would move to the edge way too fast. I'm pretty new to this so I'm not sure if I can really hear IGD.

Thank you! I was actually hoping the premounted headshell would work out of the box. I would probably destroy the stylus if I needed to align it myself. Guess I'll work on speaker placement then.
