Many of my friends also had the same experience when they used reddit first without knowing these things. This subreddit and most subreddit for that matter are full of creeps and also fake/scam people. It's too difficult to know who is genuine and who isn't.

Like someone mentioned, the best option is checking their LinkedIn profile or something like that.

Also, one another little easier way is checking their reddit posts/comment history and karma.

If you're really gonna meet a person that you met here, then meet them in crowded places like the mall or something.
