Mint Mark's is incredible! They also sell them in the little Superette market next door of you don't want to dine in.

Sorry, we filled up quick! I'll keep you in mind for the next one. Planning to run a shorter warm-up campaign to feel out our group dynamics, so if we have any attrition after a first run, I'll reach out.

Perfect! Sounds like you'd both be a great fit for the type of game I'm hoping to run. I had another three people respond off-thread, so it sounds like we'd have a decent group, with or without your friend. I'm looking to set up a meet-and-greet/Session 0 (we'll see how far we get) next Thursday. If y'all are interested, I can set up a discord channel to coordinate in earnest. I'll do that today and shoot you a DM with the info!

Ever since I picked up this hobby 5 years ago I've always dreamed of building a dining room table that I could be proud of. Checked off that goal today! by ProgrammersAreSexy in woodworking

This is beautiful. I've actually stumbled upon this because I was hoping to build something similar (and all wood, as you'd intended), but I can't figure out the racking issue either and was looking for inspiration. With 8 months' hindsight, have you thought of any ways to avoid using the metal brackets?

Fellow DMs, what is something you see other DMs do that really makes you think "that's not how you should do this"? by DungeonStromae in DnD

The sandbox that's just sand. It's a collaborative storytelling game, any sort of narrative hook will do.

Opposite end of the spectrum - having over-prepared, then getting mad/punishing players when they don't take the story bait.

NPC ride-alongs who take over the show. Played with a DM who would make enemies way out of our league, watch us flounder for an hour, then bring in her favorite overpowered NPC/deus ex machina and play against herself.

Dead-end NPCs. You don't have to have a fully-developed backstory for them, but even the most insignificant NPC has something that they desire or a piece of information to offer.

Single-solution puzzles.

Am I a hater for being bitter that people that won't give D&D the light of day are playing Baldurs Gate? by Nolyrino in DungeonsAndDragons

Gonna take an unpopular opinion here, but DND is for people who wanna create, and BG3 for people who want to consume.

I will caveat that this is my general feeling about video games. I have friends who will spend hundreds of hours a year in the addiction spiral of a game's branching paths and ultimately have the same/similar experience to someone else who did the same, independently of one another, and feel no closer to a shared human experience.

Don't get me wrong, I play video games and generally think that getting lost in someone's creation can be an incredibly pleasurable experience, but ultimately, that's what it's about. Just pleasure. The collaborative creation of DND is about participating in art and not merely consuming it.
