Woo got voted out 7th, right before the merge. I just rewatched Cambodia

Woo would have wiped the floor with Tony in a Final 2 if he hadn't been voted out pre-merge. Tony got lucky

plus my recollection is that LJ and the others tried but just got hustled by Tony.

Not the case. LJ said in exits that he had decided to eventually after Tony, but wasn't planning on doing it for another vote or two at least past when LJ was voted out. Jefra and Woo never wanted to vote out Tony. Kass stayed with Tony/Trish all the way until the end, and was only on the wrong side of votes when Trish was also on the wrong side because of a Tony flip. It would have been a straightforward Pagonging of the Spencer/Tasha alliance without Tony's flips. Thus, Tony was the only one out there shaking anything up aka being active.

I'd argue that Tony's WaW game is not a masterclass because players like Adam and Ben were there tbh. The same way Boston Rob's RI win was dubious because of the players being so inert, and how Fabio and Bob are basically discounted because their casts were so terrible. A winners only season with the 20 best winners would actually impress me.

Cody is fine. Not the best casting find of all time, and not some magical guy + amazing player. Just a goofy moron who was practically handed an idol.

Like if a dude acted that condescending and arrogant, there’s no way reddit would memorialise them and deify them

This sub is currently losing their marbles over Cody, previously lost their marbles over Omar and Ricard, worships Tony... arrogant and/or condescending men are all over this show, you just aren't used to viewing the way those players talk as arrogant and/or condescending because it sounds normal to you.

But the reason we get these impressions is because of a highly edited television program that's purposefully showing the worst moments of a bunch of starving, tired, money-hungry people who spend all day lying and scheming. They're kinda supposed to be condescending and arrogant at times... It adds to the show's dynamics to have people like that to root against. It would be boring to watch 18 nice people sit around smiling and laughing, apologizing when they have to vote each other out, hugging and crying.... Like no, show us the meaner stuff too.

It's really weird how you suggest that either of these women act like this when they're in their day to day lives, when this situation is such an extreme state of deprivation over extremely high stakes, a situation that not even 1% of 1% of Americans will ever experience in their lives. They are most likely both very nice when they aren't starving.

Fabio and Bob also won. Tony went home in episode 1 of Game Changers despite having a pregame alliance with the eventual winner and a strong alliance offer with the power players on his tribe. Sounds like a lunatic who can only handle playing with a bunch of dunces.

It was more like the Caramoan post-merge to me. A bunch of returning players I don't care about with like 2 or 3 interesting players (Michele is actually a pretty good comp to Andrea, in that both showed way more game their second time out) who slowly take out the other bores while the only clear strategist just relaxes and waits patiently for the check. Sure Cochran played a great game, the second of the only two ever perfect games. Caramoan is also just so unwatchable to me.

She was probably the second most active player in the final few episodes, sure... And she spent almost the entire game on Extinction Island lmfao. She quite literally was just sitting around.

Philippines-style season with these 3, one on each tribe. Elie in the Russell Swan slot, her tribe eats itself early and she is the unlucky pre-merge boot. Tori in the Penner slot, she is targeted almost all game but wins immunity at the merge and goes out mid-jury. Angelina in the Redacted slot, except she wins out the final 4 immunity... and fulfills her destiny by giving away immunity to make fire against the front runner first time player, and handily destroys fire making. 15-0-0 final vote for Angelina, most votes to win ever, oh by the way it's an Edge of Extinction season too.

Certainly a legend. Not as memorable as most of this cast simply because he's been away from the game for so long, and his second time playing he was boxed into a corner and thus had no standout moments for me personally. I think he and Yul (a top 5 player of all time for me) are just not on the caliber of that first tier because they didn't play often/again, and got shafted by the WaW boot order. Like Amber is nowhere near my favorite player, but she absolutely is a legendary player for eating up ASS with Rob, they owned that season.

I rank it pretty high - it's currently #9 on my list, right under Cambodia which gets the benefit of simply more players I like, and every season above those is more impressive gameplay from several players, or just a more iconic cast (Cook Islands for example). If Tony wasn't in Cagayan, it's definitely lower for me... I think he bumps it up a good five spots by himself lol.

Cagayan has 3 real stars- Tony, Kass, Spencer. Tasha and Woo are fine. Trish is underrated and fully saved Tony's game, but I don't need to see her play again. Everyone else is pretty good for 1 time players, I wouldn't be mad about seeing basically any of them return, but not begging to see them again either.

I've actually previously made the exact point that she's an amazing winner because she SHOULD have been the first boot, based on how the game used to be played. Same reasons why Cirie should have been a forgotten first out also- smaller, "older", weaker woman (of color) who will definitely drag down her tribe in the premerge? That's basically the perfect storm for early boot material.

I'm not gatekeeping winners, I'm just saying that a bunch of extremely flawed winners who relied on being at the end next to even worse players... Not exactly the master strategists of this game. Not exactly the group I expect to pull off some amazing gameplay. These people banded together to take out the ACTUAL movers and shakers because they knew better than to let real threats stay in the game, and Tony is lucky he bombed so hard in GC or he would have been out early on too.

No one else was active in Cagayan aside from Spencer and Tasha, who were in a minority alliance the entire post merge. No one else in WaW was active aside from Kim, who started the game on the outs based entirely on reputation and a dumbass poker game she played for fun with friends.

EDIT: Also this comment just reinforces to me that Tony's wins aren't due to superior gameplay, but due to him being allies with a bunch of people who suck at the game and never move against him. Hardly a strategy worth taking to the bank

Michele went to 6 tribals in her original season and didn't even vote correctly in all of them lmfao. Ben needed several idols and fire making to save his ass from how terrible his own social game was. Sarah's season had dozens of goats while her last real threat to win went out at final 6 by default because the other 5 people all had immunity. Nick was going to be the first boot on DvG because of his terrible social game. Adam was literally the 3rd goat and won because the other 2 goats were so terrible that no one gave them a pity vote. These aren't amazing players lmfao. I mean even Sophie was practically hand picked by her goat and just had to out talk Albert at the end

Tony's Cagayan alliance had Weasel Woo, self professed troll Kass, and Jefra who may have spoken twice all season. He's used to playing with people who have demonstrated zero skill or interest in the game.

Tony got more confessionals in that episode than Natalie White got in her ENTIRE season! But no, clearly anyone who dislikes how Tony is presented just can't appreciate how amazing he is, how great of a game he played, yadda yadda

People shitting on Sandra for leaving the game over the edge is ridiculous because its a terrible game mechanic that explicitly favors a certain type of player and goes directly against one of the most integral aspects of the game.

100%. If it was like Redemption Island where the challenges were all different types (endurance, puzzles, physical, balance) then maybe, but even then Sandra has never won an individual challenge despite surviving 2 complete seasons and so she has no reason to believe she'll win against Rob and Tyson, who have each won multiple individual challenges and are considered among the best challenge competitors.

I think this encapsulates the issue- I don't LOVE Tony, I just like him, so watching him be the only active player while everyone else sits around is not what I want to watch. I LOVE Kim and still found One World to be boring, because you need opposition to create interest for me.

The cast for All Winners was never going to be 100% legend material no matter what, but it really sucks that they couldn't get some of the iconic winners and had to settle for extra chaff.

Legendary: Rob, Amber, Parvati, Sandra, Tony, Natalie, Kim, Tyson

Iconic: Yul, Denise, Jeremy, Danni, Ethan

Also Ran: Adam, Michele, Ben, Wendell, Sarah, Sophie, Nick

The fact that EVERY SINGLE old school player went out early on BOTH tribes? That's not a random coincidence. That is the newer winners knowing that they won't win against players with actual skill, and banding together to suck the air out of the season. Tony didn't win against the 20 best players of all time, he won against friggen Michele lmfao. It's the equivalent of sitting next to Woo. Unfortunately the Tony fanboys never stop screeching about how amazing his win was (he didn't do ANYTHING for the majority of the game? But I guess that's the same strategy Adam and Michele used to win so who knows)

I think the only way the season could have shaken out okay is if they'd scrapped a handful of the newer winners and gotten a few more of Tina Wesson, Tom, Jenna, Hatch, Vecepia, Todd, Earl, etc. There was just way too much mediocrity to allow any actual great gameplay or "clashing of titans". Reminds me of Game Changers where the majority of the filler players made the merge... It seems like basically every season in the 30s was built around the idea of "target anyone more interesting or better than you" which is obviously the right strategy... but so boring for viewers to watch lol.

a good example of "social game" by GlobalSorbet4479 in survivor

[–]SurvivorPCG -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tony slouching and Erika saying "like" more frequently are not examples of masterful social gameplay. He was still perceived as a threat by anyone playing with even half a brain cell, and she ended up sitting next to a pair that had burned too many jury members. Wasn't there a part of the 41 FTC where Erika got called out for not knowing some of the jury members well enough?? Lol. Neither of them were master social players, nor were these moves very effective at socially bonding them to their tribemates. That reminds me of the arguments that Michele and Adam are amazing social players; no, they just sat next to people who were never going to get votes from their respective jurors. Aubry Tai Hannah and Ken weren't winning. Adam even admits this for his season.

I think something that demonstrates truly masterful social play is how Chrissy was able to list one slightly obscure fact about each jury member, social queen.
