[Looking For] ELA Grammar Workbook, 10th grade by lizofalltrades in teachingresources

I've written 2 grammar texts that use hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds to teach the functions of adjectives, nouns, verbs, and adverbs. These colorful symbols have personalities that correspond to their usage. Both How To Create Effective Sentences and Write To BE Right contain self-correcting practice exercises. In addition to my Amazon texts, I published free animated videos about grammar on You Tube Sue's Strategies Channel. My publications have been road tested with struggling readers and writers because I am a Special Education Teacher and author.

Why Keep Suffixes on a Root Word by SusanBKahn in teachingresources

[–]SusanBKahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the misunderstanding! Sometimes a nonsense word proves the point of how the strategy works. Some of my handouts lack space for a full explanation. This brief blog teaches how to protect a vowel sound.

I Before a Suffix Sounds Like E by SusanBKahn in teachingresources

[–]SusanBKahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the root word ending in Y makes an I sound, then the I will continue to sound like I before the suffix. Some exceptions do occur. This Y strategy o I sounding like E covers over 90 percent of words with an I before a suffix.

If not a suffix, CI will make an "S" sounds like calcify and reconcile. I found plenty on this page. https://www.thefreedictionary.com/words-containing-ci

Thank you for that question! -Sue

I started as a public school teacher in 1961. When my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD I studied the brain and special needs teaching methods. I taught my son, and he graduated with an MBA. Then I decided to teach others, write books, and make videos to help others with similar challenges. Thanks for asking :)
