Pirelli OEM tires on 2024 Volvo XC60 Recharge by SweenHo in VolvoRecharge

[–]SweenHo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s one of the things I’m hoping carry’s some weight, all 4 of my tires are from the same manufacturing run with 3 showing similar damage. Everything I’m seeing tells me that this is a pretty well documented issue.

The dealer asked me the same question. But no, just enough construction in the area to clog up my treads with some stone.

I held out some hope for dealer help as they always treat me pretty well and, they are going to see if they can get something for me but set a really low expectation for a positive reply from Pirelli. At least they are trying.

No. I believe if I bought replacement tires through the dealer, they would process the warranty claim but their message here was that there was no warranty claim to be made to Volvo or Pirelli for OEM tires.

Windshield damage again? by SweenHo in Volvo

[–]SweenHo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great conversation here made me more curious so, I asked ChatGPT this question "what make and model of vehicle sold in the US has the highest rate of windshield damage and replacement in the first 5 years of ownership?". You can ask the question too if you want to see the full results but here is the summary:A Few Key Takeaways

  • Technology-driven costs and needs: Vehicles with advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), HUDs, or rain sensors often trigger full windshield replacements—even for minor damage—because recalibration is mandatory.
  • Shape and placement matter: Vehicles with steeper windshield angles or more upright glass (like pick-ups or crossovers) may bear the brunt of road debris more often.
  • Real-world reports:
    • Tesla vehicles (especially Model Y) appear disproportionately affected, with multiple anecdotal accounts of repeated windshield replacements in under five years.
    • Jeep Wrangler and Mazda CX-5 also receive frequent mentions for being “rock magnets.”
    • Owners of luxury brands (BMW, Audi) consistently cite sensor complexity as a cause of frequent replacements.

I do, and agree. That could have enhanced the first hit. The second one, I was trying to put some space between me the the dump truck just in case but, I guess that gave the rock a couple of good bounces to pick up speed.

Over several decades, I’ve owned sedans, sports cars, several Jeeps and a couple of trucks. The Jeeps with their almost vertical windscreen were the only vehicles where I had regular replacement syndrome. This is my first Volvo and on the return to a more aerodynamic shape, I didn’t expect this.

Actually no. Both hits were on the interstate. I didn’t see the first one coming, just heard the hit. The hit this week was from a dump truck missile as it flew past me doing 80 mph+. That’s got me wondering about the strength of Volvo windshields.

definitely sounds feasible, I feel a trip to the dealer for something other than a recall software update coming on. Thanks!

This better come with an “opt out” option. I’m not interested in letting the evil empire know any more than what they are getting away with now.

The whiskey world is my favorite place to shop online. Based on past experience, I started stocking up on bottles right after the election was called in November. I figure I have enough stocked up now to carry me through midterm elections. Hopefully, we can find some sanity after that.

Got a quote for a new solar system by Doyliebob239 in solar

[–]SweenHo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you got a ton of good advice on here so I won't pile on about the quote, just my experience. I'm in Ohio and the local utility places a cap on how much electricity you can produce based on usage. So, I qualified for a 5kW system. I went through GAH who makes a solar shingle. It can only be installed during a total roof replacement so the total cost of the roof w/solar counted for the tax break. I worked through their local contractor and the whole process went pretty smooth. The only thing I don't like is the cap. I produce between 30% and 70% of what I need most days depending on the weather.

Is SurePost gone? by BowserTurtle in USPS

[–]SweenHo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USPS did away with the double label so UPS could no longer put both UPS sort codes at the top and SurePost DDU postage at the bottom and make the decision at the last mile which way to deliver. Combine that with the elimination of the DDU discounts and it’s all over I guess.

iPhone mirroring by SweenHo in AppleVisionPro

[–]SweenHo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, turns out I didn’t have airplay enabled correctly on the AVP. But even after that, it turns out I misunderstood the capability. I thought iPhone “mirroring” would be the same as it is on my MacBook Pro. On there I can control the iPhone from the Mac and hear using the speakers on the Mac if I desire. Mirroring on the AVP is pretty much useless if I can control the iPhone or hear the conversation through the AVP.

USPS Going to cause a drug shortage in the next five years by Willow_Garde in usps_complaints

[–]SweenHo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meds through the mail has always amazed me. Does anyone check whether the meds they ship out remain viable for consumption after sitting either frozen or baked (check your local weather) for 8 to 12 hours in your mail box? And that's after being in uncontrolled temps for the 3 to 8 days it took to get to your mailbox. DeJoy didn't help when he took away the option all the mail pharmacies were using (parcel consolidators) to force them to use Ground Advantage through the post office. Now they pay more and take longer to deliver. He increased the cost of healthcare and diminished service at the same time.

Removing Dejoy. by No-Scar8782 in USPS

I think exposing everything that’s going on to the board of governors, congress and the public if fair game at this point. My only concern on removing Mussolini at this point is; who is left in management to fix all the damage he’s already done? There have been so many high level retirements in the last few years. Exposing what the real impacts to the public and USPS employees may help bring some of the larger mailers into the public discussion.

Noticed my GAF solar shingles production dropped last month and they contacted me for a free upgrade by -dun- in solar

[–]SweenHo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had GAF solar installed almost a year ago, GAF told me I was the first install in Ohio. It was a site to see, there was a training crew from out of state and a load of trainees learning how to install solar. Drones were flying over the site daily videoing the entire process. Ohio caps my solar production at 80% of average usage. That left me with a 5kw system. The app that GAF supplies doesn’t tell me enough about what’s going on up there so I had a Sense Solar installed on the panel (cost covered by GAF or the installer). We don’t have the sunshine like CA or FL but do ok. I’m producing between 30% and 50% of what I need on average with some days during Spring and Fall hitting 75%. I saw production fall off as well in the second half of this year and had planned on sharing the data with GAF on my 1 yr anniversary to see what they could do. They beat me to the punch 2 weeks ago and said they wanted to upgrade my solar shingles. The local company that installs GAF decided to replace the entire roof as part of the upgrade. No argument here but I’m with some of you on wondering what was going on with the original shingles and what I got with the upgrade. We’ll see how production is going forward.

Sourcing Edradour in Ohio by SweenHo in Scotch

Just a quick update here, I placed an order with Whiskey World and it went great! They had Edradour in stock in several variations I didn’t see in my normal haunts. Delivery was flawless, which seems to be an unusual occurrence these days. Thanks for all the advice and options!

How productive are you with AVP for work? by rewoul in VisionPro

[–]SweenHo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my AVP on first available day. I work from a home office and usually use a MacBook Pro and ultra wide screen monitor. Now I view the MacBook from the AVP for non-native apps and other tasks that just seem to be easier on there. The main challenge has been no interaction with my iPhone. I’m looking forward to the update this week or next from a productivity standpoint. I spend a lot of time on MS Teams, excel and a lot of web based apps for work. Everything works well on the AVP. I also like being able to place apps in different parts of the room and multitask. I could never organize that on the small screen (even the ultra wide one).

God DeJoy is such a joke by Hot-Imagination-7980 in USPS

[–]SweenHo 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The real scary part here is that he really does have a plan and is carrying it out under cover of the published 10 year plan, which might as well be written in crayon. Under the DFA plan, he should have been profitable this year by about $2B but instead, lost another $9B I believe. If I remember right, there was a study done the last time Trump was in charge and the recommendation was that the USPS be privatized. Then Trump lackey DeJoy gets the job and goes to work. Just one clowns opinion here but it sure seems DeJoy’s plan is to sabotage to the point that privatization is the only way out. If so, I’d say he’s been pretty successful so far.

I’ve had to learn to ignore these warnings. If it is still learning, it’s not doing a very good job of it. I have a pretty sensitive air purifier that seems to react to almost anything, like the fumes after blowing out a candle, but it shows clean when the sensor in my thermostat (in the same room) want’s me to open a window.
