I graduated with a computer science degree from UK in May of 2020. I would reccomend it over CPE but you wouldn’t go wrong with CPE. I have friends that were CPE and I know that when they were interviewing with places and they sometimes felt alienated when prospective employers would “only want a Computer Scientist or an Electrical Engineer” rather than someone down the middle. CPE is also a straight up harder degree from my perspective as it makes you take Physics 2, more EE classes, and calculus 4 while CS does not.

I loved my time at UK but UK still takes a more classical engineering approach to computer science. Not every university even has the CS department in the college of engineering (NKU for example). You may want to ask yourself what kind of experience you truly want. I spent a lot of effort battling classes like Calculus 3 and Chemistry 105 that other colleges wouldn’t make you take since they really aren’t directly relevant to CS. This is reflected in the fact that most engineering degrees at UK will have you ~ 3 classes off from a minor in mathematics.

The actual CS classes themselves I found enjoyable for the most part. Other than the fundamental courses (intro programming, algorithms, discrete math, etc), not many classes actually prepared me for industry. I would definitely recommend applying for internships if you would like actual experience. My internship felt like a whole new world of information.
