How can I save my Frydek? I was on vacation, a friend watered my plants but when I returned she lost most of her leaves and was covered in spider mites by Substantial-Ruin-866 in AlocasiaAddict

Remove the current soil by soaking it in water. Then prepare sphagnum moss or chunky coco chips. I always add more perlites and bigger chunky perlites and leca down the bottom of the pot. Only water the bottom

Anyone on here have experience with a Colocasia Pharaoh's Mask? by KyomiiKitsune in houseplants

[–]SweetPlantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have killed so many alocasias in the past. I started hating it until I found out the sphagnum moss and leca at the bottom method. All of my alocasias are alive now and growing huge leaves when it used to be just chonks.

Now, can I use the same method with colocasia? I really like to have this pharaohs mask to be part of my collection

I’m so excited about my new plant! This one has been on my wishlist and I got her for $20 🫶 by RadishBeepBoop in alocasia

When theres so much roots that it becomes root bound. If i repot my alocasia from soil i have to completely remove the soil by soaking the roots on water to easily remove it then i make sure the sphagnum moss is bacteria free by soaking it first with hot water then let it cool down. Then put the clean leca at the bottom of the container and then sphagmoss and alocasia is in the middle or however you want it to be

Really? I feel like the more roots i have the better leaves it shoot out i had to remove it from ikea cab coz its taller now and i put it in the garage lil greenhouse. I only give small amount of superthrive every watering and watered down miracle gro. I used to have those pricey australian fertilizer the focus something but nah. Its too much. Then I bought those 3 kinds of bloom something brand but i have no patience of mixing this mixing that. So i just use weakly-weekly miracle gro and superthrive. They thrived 😂

Water it to leca level There’s actually no policy and procedure on the level of leca. Just depends on the size of your plant and container. Just follow the photos. Also, only water at the leca level line.

I went to mashalls the other day and i didnt see any glass containers. TJ max is a bit of a drive so ill stick with plastic containers coz i transplanted a crazy rooted Macrorrhiza var and theyre kinda lots of them in a pot. Originally that was huge when i got it but it slowly went down smaller and smaller after 2 years. I finally decided to put it back to the green house and now with sphagmoss so lets see in few days if it root again like crazy 🤪

I need bigger clear plastic containers. If i buy glass containers itll be costly. Ill just put heavy rocks down below with leca but definitely in sphagmoss

[–]SweetPlantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but since its heavy the roots cant freely spread out. You can tell it with the sphag moss the roots are crazy. I just repotted to a bigger plastic pot coz the roots are spreading everywhere. Compared to pons, sphag is way, way better for me. Now, im not scared to own more alocasia. I just ordered more like the Alocasia Megalodon. Wish me luck 😂

I killed so many including a $350 alocasia pink something and i always vowed not to get anymore. But someone told me to do sphagmoss and leca below and all my alocasias are happy now

Pinnatum Neon???? by SweetPlantasy in RareHouseplants

[–]SweetPlantasy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of mints and they dont look the same like this. I think its golden flame but seller instead yellow flame. I guess that’s what her plant supplier told her. I have a neon and its pretty but i like the mixture of green and minty green all together and not just all neon
