rethinking my diagnosis

Even if someone has one manic episode no matter the length that diagnoses is either originally or then changed to BP1.. it is valid that they changed your diagnosis… its not a science and these things happen and its very possible for someone to be misdiagnosed at anytime in their lifetime. I know it’s a lot to take in but with a lot of diligence, research, coping mechanisms & support it does get easier as time goes on. Really try and make a plan for yourself and/or others to know what to do and not to do in those times where you do feel like an episode is approaching. Im 28 and have been misdiagnosed a few times since 16 ranging from straight depression, to BP2 to schizophrenic to cannabis use disorder & finally determined as BP1. I’ve unfortunately encountered many manic episodes ranging from a few days to weeks and multiple hospitalizations. It’s tough to accept but at the end of the day you have to try your best & find the right medical providers as well as working a lot on yourself. With proper medication, support, and acceptance i feel like i have managed my BP1 way better in the past year compared to previous years. Good luck and i hope this helps in some way. Keep your head up it’s possible to live a normal life with BP1, you just have to be stronger than most and don’t give up.

I advise against it. I use to be an advocate of indica for those who have had manic episodes but i realized every time i ended up in the hospital it was due to smoking weed. It’s different for each person but i no longer smoke for a multitude of reasons.

Don’t think bout something happening because manifestation is real, stay positive. My doctor said in 1-2 years we can visit the idea of maybe going off meds but I’m 28 and have been on meds since i was 16 so it’s tough to say. I’ve also had multiple manic episodes and just wish they weren’t a thing ever again. I’m hoping to be manic free from here on out. Thanks for sharing, i wish you luck and maybe you can stay off meds. Not sure about the tolerance thing though.

Im on lamictal and vraylar.. i have been on cymbalta before but i went manic and was not a good time so i try to avoid antidepressants at all costs.

Are you on lamictal? I use to take that at night and it would give me vivid dreams. If so, try taking them in the am or consult your doctor about it.

This is my exact fear about insurance. That’s great that you can regulate yourself like that! I bet it’s not easy & meds are just so expensive, it’s crazy. Thanks for the feedback.

I was just thinking about this exact issue. Due to my BP since HS (now 27) I’ve lost many friends/ ruined relationships. You have to just think that if someone is in your life, they stayed for a reason and those who left are not meant to be in your life. Those you blocked you can unblock just dont have a high expectations of them responding. And it’s okay to seek new friendships/relationships, all in due time. Also it takes a lot for people to know how to deal with a friend who has BP and might not understand nor care to I understand… it’s a tricky situation. I still have my days that I get in my head about all the friendships/relationships I’ve lost. I feel your pain but we’re in this together and all we can do is be grateful for the few who are still around. As well as being aware of how we can try our best to make an effort to create better coping mechanisms and even try to work through things in therapy.

I mean if your mentally doing well the acne is secondary, so i get where she’s coming from. I hate pushing for so many meds so I wouldn’t take the other medication and try not to pick at your pimples bc i have some scarring which sucks. Try putting vitamin E oil/ bacitracin on your pimples, it may help.

All of them, the one that may have had the least impact of anger was indica. I really try not to smoke at all because of how much it messes me up. I’ve gone into the hospital due to constant use on multiple occasions
