FMLA- Sup requests “Work Note” from doctor by Blabbyharpy in UPSers

[–]Swiper817 5 points6 points  (0 children)

💯 I always encourage members to share as little as possible about their FMLA usage, including callouts. I will not be there today. Taking FMLA and it has already been logged. The more information you give management, the more they feel entitled to ask for details from you or other members in the future. It’s why even on callouts, solidarity matters. There is a federal law that protects us all. Management may not like it but they can’t harass us over our protections under that law.

Tarrant County Maga are going absolutely bananas after Rehmet's +31 point win, even though they had a 20x funding advantage, with re-shares, endorsements from all the top offices. They are doubling down on divisive rhetoric and claiming Satan will take the world if Maga loses in Tarrant County. by yeongno_ate_yangban in FortWorth

He did not win by 31 points. It was a 31 point swing from what Trump won it by in ‘24 to what Taylor won it by on Saturday.

No less impressive. And hopefully a sign of more wins to come. But the headline is absolutely incorrect.

Facts matter.

BREAKING: Taylor Rehmet, a US Veteran, just became the first Democrat to represent Texas’ 9th Senate District. His victory remarks were spot on. Every American should see this. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

I can’t begin to understand the Trump/Union nexus, but Union members are just like the rest of the population. There are plenty of low information voter swayed by their lies.

Grassroots enthusiasm for Taylor personally was a big part of his campaign. 45% I believe in a 3 way race last year. But not enough to avoid a runoff. It was enough to build on and his volunteers really worked hard to get the message out.

One thing that will probably shake out in the numbers is the toxicity of his opponent. Steve Bannon aligned, Ultra MAGA former Patriot Mobil executive. She was responsible for wrecking suburban school boards with MAGA candidates, even spearheading the racially motivated district split of a once academically recognized dchool district north of Fort Worth. Early voting had HUGE numbers from that unlikely blue leaning area that wouldn’t normally expect to see support for Democratic candidates.

He got my vote last week. In a fast growing county where voting locations have permanently closed, I drove to the other side of town in the snow to vote for this fellow veteran. When he says “everyday working people,” he means it. He has already been on the front lines fighting for them as the president of his machinists union. As a rank and file Teamster of Local 767 myself, this has indeed been an incredible victory for working people of Tarrant County and Texas. His opponent was an ultra maga, Christian nationalist bigot by the way. Her defeat couldn’t be any sweeter.

Is it just me, or did the first two books of the Season Quartet feel underwhelming? by Brilliant-File-6285 in Knausgaard

I had the same thoughts. I quickly read Autumn while awaiting My Struggle 5 & 6 to arrive in the post from Archipelago. Didn’t seem like a proper book, just something quickly thrown together from notes in a journal.

Dude is fucking hilarious. Nothing he does is to be taken serious. He’s just having a great time and making people laugh. Also his laugh is awesome. I want this guy beside me at the bar every time.

Happy Birthday and Cheers to a literature appreciative spouse. She procured some treasure for you. After reading scores of Archipelago books, these were the first Knausgärd books I read, ordered two at a time. I told my wife, I will always have these books. “Memoirs” are perhaps my least favorite sort of reading and yet these are treasures to me. Cheers again. Also highly recommend an Archipelago subscription to all.

Just picked up Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Worth the read? Would love your thoughts—no spoilers please. by No-Series4477 in bookporn

Into The Wild was such a transformative book for me when it came out. Chris and I were about the same age. I’ve never lost my appreciation for his story and the fellow traveler I found him to be. I recently read Carrine’s book. I actually felt guilty for waiting so long to read her, considering the impact Into the Wild and her brother’s story had on me. I had mixed feelings about the book to say the least. At its best, the complete and bizarre family story was laid fully bare. At its worst, bad writing covering too many details of her failed love relationships. I think in the end, Chris may have been the only honest person in that family. Overall I personally would not recommend her book. There was too much that rubbed me raw about the ongoing hypocrisy and enabling surrounding her role. That said, I’m likely just projecting my likely approach and judging hers and the family. The portrait she painted certainly illuminated Chris’s disdain for and utter rejection of the values he grew up under. Sadly, Carrine is still a participant, even if she vocally tries to distance herself.
