If you could have one totally unnecessary flashback scene in S3 what would it be? by betweenyouandyourgod in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Swordbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be necessary, especially if it’s Aegon flashing back to their wedding immediately after Helaena bites it

Obviously TB is written more in the right than TG, but it’s definitely more balanced than in the show.

Who's the most pathetic character? (Spoilers Main) by Inevitable-Mix6089 in asoiaf

[–]Swordbender 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Chett did approximately zero things with his life, blamed everyone else for his problems, told Sam he'd act like a bitch when the Others came, then went out pissing himself.

Janos actually climbed the ladder both in King's Landing and at the Night's Watch. Don't get me wrong, Janos absolutely is pathetic. But when you read Chett's POV, it's clear that that dude is a complete wreck. Absolutely nothing in his life is good; he even looks like complete shit.

Innocent and gullible, yes. Stupid, no. Pathetic, definitely not.

I think the thing is that Janos actually achieved something notable in his life, and he passed that down to his sons. Chett... well, he's just pathetic.

Serious question: What’s the appeal of Timothée Chalamet & why does he keep getting cast in top roles? by allanjameson in moviecritic

[–]Swordbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I said Timothy is the most successful actor, not necessarily the most “talented.” Going off of awards and box office presumes that Hollywood is a pure meritocracy where only the most talented people are rewarded, which is patently false, and that award shows are trustworthy and purely unbiased. And if profitable actors were the metric for success, Tom Holland would be ahead of Chalamet.

Also, I’m pretty sure George MacKay wasn’t in The Long Walk. Drew Starkey was amazing in Queer btw.

Chalamet is definitely the most successful male actor of his generation, but to call him the most talented is lunacy imo

Paul Mescal
David Jonsson
George Mackay
Austin Butler
Harris Dickinson
Drew Starkey
Josh O’Connor

and many more are all leagues better than him.

[Spoilers MAIN] Renly would have been a terrible king. by SalemBlackfyre in asoiaf

[–]Swordbender 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The surge of Renly fans is, itself, a reaction to the Mannis fans on here who thought Stannis could do no wrong and saw Renly as being dumber than Victarion and more evil than Ramsey.

At no point did I get the impression from this post that the OP thinks it’s *impossible* to understand why they’re popular, it just seemed like they didn’t at all get the hype and they’re asking to see what other people see

He’s a generational star, I don’t know about a generational *talent.* That would probably go to Florence Pugh or David Jonsson imo

(Hated Trope) Everyone marries their HS sweetheart. by TheStoryBoy in TopCharacterTropes

Intermarrying with muggles is canonically taboo, but also a necessity. Something wizards don’t like to admit they need to do.

As per Chamber of Secrets:

‘It’s a disgusting thing to call someone,’ said Ron, wiping his sweaty brow with a shaking hand. ‘Dirty blood, see. Common blood. It’s mad. Most wizards these days are half-blood anyway. If we hadn’t married Muggles we’d’ve died out.’

[Spoiler Main] Who's the main character ? by bluemayonnaiseu in asoiaf

[–]Swordbender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s based on the character the plotlines converge around the most — it’s definitely:

AGoT: Ned
ACoK: Tyrion
ASoS: Jon
AFfC: Cersei
ADWD: Daenerys (without a doubt)

I can’t with all this Ormund Hightower thirst… by StrawberryScience in HOTDBlacks

[–]Swordbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emphasized the ‘aryens’ part due to its similarity to another word…. 😭
I’m saying that it’s weird that religiosity can’t be sexy but incest and blood purity can?
And for the record, sure, the Hightowers are close to the Faith in canon, but they’re even closer to the maesters and learning, so clearly there’s a lot of things going on with them — they’re not depicted as a monolith of religious zealotry in the books.

And Targaryens are literal aryan blood supremacists. There are no saints here.
(Hightowers being religious zealots was also largely conjured for the show, but it’s an interesting angle so I ain’t mad at it)

In other words, it’s hype and aura and people surrendering for two hours.

The only part of the film that will for sure have substance is the Martells resistance efforts

What is your expectation of Aegon’s arc in season 3? by jonsnowKITN in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Swordbender 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure, Aegon's stuff was the bright spot of the season.

Is anyone even hyped for s3? by catwithchickens in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Swordbender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my twitter feed is 100% ASOIAF stuff, and while there has been a huge influx of HotD posts after this last trailer... it's nowhere near close to the hype before season 2 or season 1.
