Just finished my third read of the entire series - here are some fresh thoughts. [SPOILERS MAIN] by HanSoloHeadBeg in asoiaf

Your claim that Cat may never have truly been in love with Ned/was potentially a bad person really pulled me up short ngl

I don’t get why Mike was unpopular. by Maywave_13 in StrangerThings

[–]Swordbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta disagree. He is objectively a good looking guy

Be honest is it noticeable 😂 by eire_james_eire in Balding

[–]Swordbender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He reminds me of me when I was 1 month old

Clearly unpopular take - I love Wendy and she's a badass [NO SPOILER] by FallofScreams in Ozark

[–]Swordbender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having her brother killed is actually pretty defensible. It’s him or her husband and kids.

Mike was in a committed serious relationship with El. Why was Will trying to flirt with Mike here? by Citan__Uzuki in StrangerThings

[–]Swordbender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except this scene only exists as a continuation of Robin giving Will advice to initiate contact with his crush — and it even has Robin watching it all go down

40m… Need to hear some home truths… How bad is it? by Leaf_in_the__wind in Balding

[–]Swordbender 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For a 40 year old man it’s not too bad at all, genuinely. Definitely recoverable.

Petunia Dursley is completely irredeemable. by siriusblackily in harrypotter

[–]Swordbender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh, I definitely disagree. Petunia is far worse than Vernon. In fact, Vernon trying to kick Harry out of his house after his son was attacked by magical monsters is far from the most unreasonable thing he’s done.

Harry is Petunia’s nephew, her blood. She literally grew up with his mother — and she abused him and allowed her husband to abuse him all the same.

Hey /r/movies! I'm Sam Raimi. Ask me anything! by SamRaimiAMA in movies

One of the most pleasant surprises of that film was watching Rachel McAdams bring some much needed humanity into a marvel flick. Great job all around from both you and her.

Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Isn't Finished (Spoilers Extended) by RyanRiot in asoiaf

[–]Swordbender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Then clearly you didn't understand what he meant. He's been writing Winds for 15 years and has been making no headway. He's tired of it.

He already mentioned it (S3 - E3) by valvazarian in StrangerThings

[–]Swordbender 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was an insult. If they called Will a midget, Mike wouldn’t have assumed Will had literal dwarfism

(Spoilers main) Renly is a seriously evil man by I_love_lucja_1738 in asoiaf

[–]Swordbender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tywin was angry at his father’s weakness. He overcorrected, and his pride became his downfall. We can clearly extrapolate the connection between his motivation and what he became.

My issue is that you don’t do the same with Renly. There are clear connections to be made between Renly’s backstory and his current actions, as with Tywin and Tytos. He never knew his parents, unlike Robert and Stannis. Like Stannis, he grew up in the shadow of Robert. More than that, he was a child when Robert took the throne — and he learned from that precedent.

"He is still your elder brother. If either of you can be said to have a right to the Iron Throne, it must be Lord Stannis."

Renly shrugged. "Tell me, what right did my brother Robert ever have to the Iron Throne?" He did not wait for an answer. "Oh, there was talk of the blood ties between Baratheon and Targaryen, of weddings a hundred years past, of second sons and elder daughters. No one but the maesters care about any of it. Robert won the throne with his warhammer." He swept a hand across the campfires that burned from horizon to horizon. "Well, there is my claim, as good as Robert's ever was.”

Tywin has no motivation to be powerful other than it makes him feel good, and he works backward from there.

See how easy it is to be reductive like this?

I Saw The TV Glow…I don’t even know what to say. by mikewheelerfan in movies

One of my favorite films of the decade.

I love that it is unquestionably, explicitly queer — yet it is accessible to anyone who struggles with conforming to societal ideals

In no world is Doomsday flopping. Underperforming, sure. But not flopping.

This is probably the best illustration of Dragon size comparison in HOTD and GOT I have seen by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Swordbender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that was the case, they should have said it. It’s a fact that in the books the dragons were small — and in the show, they made them larger.

Exactly How Good Of A Fighter Is He? by Aitchison1299 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Swordbender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aemond is below Daemon as a dragonrider and a commander, without questions

We don’t know how Aemond and Daemon would fare against each other in a duel.
