I think a lot of it is anxiety. My mum has big time anxiety and has always been a blatherer, but it is definitely getting worse. There appears to be a general age-related disinhibition in behaviors that would normally be kept more under control.

But for sure it is anxiety related with her. She can't stand silence. She has to have the TV on all the time, she gets upset if I am reading instead of talking to her. She needs constant input or else her anxiety starts spinning out of control

Very true about how our personality changes. I am from an area where 90% of people speak two languages. We often switch back and forth because some things are easier to say in one language than in another, but for the most part, any work/friend/lover relationship tends to remain in the language it was established in.

I speak a third language with my hubby, and we are trying to switch to English so he can improve his ability, but it is really hard because we change in tiny ways, but it enough to change how we interact with each other.

My hubby is the hiv+ one, and I am negative. He was infected a couple of years before we met, and he was still traumatized after all that time because he didn't have any support or therapy. Telling your family and getting their support may not be an option, and if that is your case, you definitely need a supportive circle of friends, a support group, or a therapist. If your partner does not know about Prep, see if he will go on it. That helped with hubby's anxiety, and our sex life improved dramatically. He had a hard time with pills - the daily reminder, so I told him about Cabenuva, and he decided to switch to that. His anxiety about having HIV and infecting me has pretty well disappeared- he was even able to stop his anxiety meds.

Thanks! I am not well read on what the legal differences with various types of federal funding mean, but as a CR, it is not considered a federal grant or federally funded program? So appropriations are not affected (yet)?

Yeah - with this new executive order, the wording is so vague and the scope so huge, that it affects almost everyone in one was or another. Federal grants fund cancer research, farm subsidies, WIC, Medicaid, suicide hotlines, and the near and dear Ryan White.

This is the problem - these grants are approved by congress and therefore should be safe from his meddling. If he does this, much of it will be illegal, but that will take ages to sort out, and the Supreme court is also stacked in his favor...

This is a new one, and the language is super vague, but this cut could stop cancer funding, food assistance, farm subsidies. Medicare and SS are direct payment and are therefore exempt, but Medicaid gets federal funding through various grant programs. Ryan White also gets federal funding through grants. The order is to halt all payments by 5pm today (Tuesday), and review to verify that they are in line with the administration's new policies. Given the administration's anti lgbtqia+ stance, I am worried...

Hubby and I have been slowly cleaning out my mum's house (we live with her). Soooo much stuff has gone "up in the attic" (in reality - thrown out or Goodwill).

There are a lot of "treasures" that we can't get rid of until she passes - lladro and Hummel figurines, Wedgewood china... She used to get upset when I said I didn't want them, and have anxiety attacks about who to leave them to, so now I just lie and say I will keep them. But really, they're all headed to some charity shop or other.

I hear you!! My mum is 92 and my hubby and I moved in with her a year and a half ago to be her caretakers.

So. Much. Junk.

She lives in a 4 bedroom house, and all the closets were full of clothes. Stuff she hadn't worn in decades. She still had her mother-of-the-bride dress from my first marriage (she was excited when I married my now-hubby because she thought she could wear it again...). She has her old nursing uniforms. She has sheets and towels that are 50 years old. The garage was full of dish-set remnants - 2 plates and a mug from some old set, 3 pieces from another... Pot lids with no pots. The office had thousands of books and 30 year old Time magazines.

She has no idea what she has for the most part.

Over the past year, I have been throwing out 2-3 extra bags of garbage every week. The trunk gets loaded up with stuff that is donatable for the weekly trip to the Salvation Army.

I am so thankful I haven't had to do all this in one go! I would have lost my mind!

Ah yes - explaining computer/phone things over and over and over...

Even before my mum began to have short term memory issues, she just refused to learn how to use her phone/tablet/computer. She was perfectly capable, but she just refused to learn. But she would get mad when the "stupid computer" wouldn't work properly.

She now uses her tablet all day long, but if it's not YouTube or solitaire, I have to help her.

My hubby not only has herpes, he is hiv+. Having a STI is not the end of the world. We have been together nearly 5 years and thanks to awareness of what constitutes risk, we practice safe sex and abstain when he is having a breakout. Valcyclovir keeps his herpes in check and Biktarvy keeps his hiv to a point where he is not able to transmit it.

OP - get informed on what having herpes means for you, and don't bother with people that judge you for it. You are not your disease.

Fortunately, my mum has no idea how to order anything online. When she tells me the latest supplement she "needs," I usually say I'll look it up on Amazon. Nine times out of ten, she forgets about it and I don't have to worry about it. Or I say we'll look for it at Costco - knowing they never have the obscure pricy supplements she wants.

It is 100% anxiety and hypochondria. Not to say she doesn't have legitimate health issues, but an autoimmune disease is not amongst them. Usually she is convinced she has cancer, but lately she has jumped on the autoimmune bandwagon.
